My husband's cat was attacked by a pit bull type dog once. Well, better to say, the dog attempted to attack the cat.

Our new neighbor came over to introduce himself and brought his favorite dog with him. The dog looked at the cat and started towards him - far all I know the dog had no nefarious intentions. We'll never know.

The cat was much faster than the dog, and jumped up onto the dog's face. He tried to kick the dog's eyes out with his back claws, rip his ears off with the front claws and was doing his best to chew through the back of the dog's neck to get at the spinal cord.

The owner of the dog tried to grab the collar, but the cat was in the way. My husband tried to grab the cat, but the cat was latched on with full vengeance. Finally my husband got hold of the cat and pulled him free - but the cat got loose and jumped back on the dog's head. It took a time or two more before we could get the cat away from the dog long enough for the owner to shove the dog into his truck and leave.

We had a cordial relationship with the dog owner for years but for some odd reason he never brought his dog onto our property again.

The cat solved that problem before there was any questions asked. Cats do the darnedest things. I have lived with several cats who did't take too kindly to visitors they felt I was uncomfortable about or they didn't already know.

My husband's first wife adopted him and left him with Mr. csziggy when she left. He and the cat had a quiet existence until he married me and my six cats joined the household.

The old cat ruled the horde and even up to the day he died nobody messed with him unless he let them. The last time my husband tried to pet him, all her got was a slash for his efforts. At 19.5 years old, I guess he was entitled to do whatever he wanted.
