me leader has stepped into the debate over police violence and race in America, likening police shootings of black people in Ferguson and elsewhere to the Palestinian struggle in Gaza in a series of tweets using the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter.
In a stream of comments on his English-language Twitter feed, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday returned to a theme he has repeatedly struck since Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot dead by police officer Darren Wilson in Missouri on 9 August. In his latest outpouring, Khamenei seeks to highlight what he sees as the hypocrisy of the US at Christmastime by suggesting a link between Jesus suffering for the oppressed and official oppression of protesters in Ferguson.
#Jesus endured sufferings to oppose tyrants who had put humans in hell in this world& the hereafter while he backed the oppressed. #Ferguson he tweeted.
In another post, from Christmas Eve, the ayatollah wrote: If #Jesus were among us today he wouldnt spare a second to fight the arrogants&support the oppressed.#Ferguson #Gaza

(135,425 posts)But...before you get up on any high horse and smite the west for not being aware of this fact...
MOST PERSIANS don't realize this!!!
It kind of ruins the fiction that Persians were the original Aryans which is why this fact doesn't get much play, and the people who live in Afro-Persian communities don't travel much.
Fact is, many of the Afro-Persian population ended up in Iran as a consequence of slavery (which was only ended in the late 1920s in that country). It's still a rough road for them, as they are a very distinct minority clustered in a few southern provinces.
I think the Ayatullah might want to take note of that little rubric about "He who is without sin..." and maybe, just maybe, eschew the stone-throwing altogether in favor of addressing the problem instead of making accusations and casting blame.
FWIW, people who are wondering why in hell the Ayatullah is going on and on about Jesus (Isa), that's because Jesus (Isa) is regarded as a prophet in Islam, he's just not "THE" Prophet, Peace Be Upon Him, and all...

(1,495 posts)but he was the only prophet able to perform miracles. This can all be found in the Quran. He is also conceived immaculately in the Quran as well.

(I am an atheist, but I am interested in religion as a historical and anthropological subject.)

(135,425 posts)also be classified as a miracle of sorts, but this could be parsed. Going from Mecca to Jerusalem and back again in a night is quite the trick, though the credit could go to the magic horse himself, Al Buraq!
He also did his version of loaves and fishes, and water for the thirsty, casting out demons and healing the sick....so he was a member of the "miracle" club as well, by all measures, I should think.
