In my opinion, it is all political. They don't like him because he is a Democrat. And like everywhere else in our government, the right-wing GOP is trying to tear down the government in NYC just like they have tried to do in Washington. They have been mostly successful in our Capitol.
Right-wing radio and TV hosts are pushing the story as "with the cops" or "against the cops". Of course, they do it from a right-wing, Republican perspective. They want people to believe that the marchers and protesters, marching against the choking death of Eric Garner by a NYC cop, is the reason the two cops were murdered by a deranged black man with a gun.
This "us vs them" political message has infiltrated the police force of NYC. Republican operatives have successfully separated the policeman's union from the Mayor's office and actually, performed their traitorous act at a funeral for one of their own. The lack of respect cannot be missed.

(14,691 posts)It is among Commissioner Raymond W. Kellys prouder legacies: A majority of the police officers in New York City are now members of minorities, and have been since roughly 2006.
Police Department statistics reveal a decline in new recruits among black New Yorkers, despite aggressive, brochure-strewn recruitment efforts in places like central Harlem and the Bronx.
But as the Police Department has attracted an increasingly kaleidoscopic range of nationalities to its ranks in recent years officers hail from Albania to Yemen department statistics reveal a decline in new recruits among black New Yorkers.
The decline comes despite aggressive recruitment efforts in places like central Harlem and the Bronx, where the department regularly assigns friendly recruitment officers to visit.
In 2003, 18 percent of the Police Academys 2,108 graduates were black. Of the 1,247 recruits who started the academy this summer and will graduate on Friday, blacks make up about 10 percent, according to the department. By contrast, the percentage of Hispanic recruits has remained around 25 percent from 2003 till now, and the percentage of white non-Hispanic recruits has actually risen in recent years, to 57 percent from 52 percent in 2003.

(589 posts)I, _____________________, as a New York City police officer, request that Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito refrain from attending my funeral services in the event that I am killed in the line of duty. Due to Mayor de Blasio and Speaker Mark-Viverito's consistent refusal to show police officers the support and respect they deserve, I believe that their attendance at the funeral of a fallen New York City police officer is an insult to that officer's memory and sacrifice.
