Okay Fuknuckle here's the deal: There is no "surge" in political comedy. Not since the 10th century, anyway. Idiot.
Cynicism is what creates political satire. You have that backwards. Idiot.
This narrative is being pushed today by our fascistic media. They are apparently going full-out Nazi playbook now.

There's an easy way to rectify that.

(36,437 posts)What makes us cynical is the reduction of politics to a stupid sports-like contest, an operation at which Chuck Todd excels. Indeed, he knows nothing else. So, instead of seeing politics as a collective effort to build a good society ("Haha!," laugh the very media people who accuse US of cynicism, "how very utopian and trite!" , we are "delivered" politics as horserace, as football game, as utter nonsense disconnected from our concrete lives.
Chuck Todd is the very face of that operation.
How fucking dare he accuse people of cynicism. He operates the greatest cynicism machine in human history!

You are the fucking problem...YOU, the cynicism comes from failing to separate facts from fantasy and debating them equally and endlessly.
Fucking Gulliani on race relations??
Bundy Ranch armed rebellion openly calling for death to police resulting in actual directly related death to police..... ignored.....but they can so easily directly connect Deblasio and peaceful protestors as somehow inciting police deaths....fucking media.
Protestors are protesting in some wrong places, go to the source of the problem....the fucking media.

(10,495 posts)The 6 media companies and the Wall Street banks are oligopolies, highly detrimental to our country, and should be broken up. They would have never been allowed to get so big and powerful if our political leaders were not owned by the big Donors who buy them.
It amazes me that we sit still and allow this to go on right under our noses. The Plutocrats have defanged every regulatory agency by cutting their budgets and hiring them in a revolving door that makes them well compensated for selling us out. The big banks even give the Banksters departing for government service, huge bonuses just prior to leaving, and welcome them back as CEO of this or that bank.
The FCC has not been asleep at the wheel, that would give the impression that they didn't know what was going on. Obama is owned as well, just look at his appointment to head the FCC, as well as all of his Wall Street appointments. Even his Justice Department will not touch them, oh wait, Eric Holder came from a law firm that represents the Wall Street banks.
Most people know Washington politicians are corrupted, yet we talk of electing more Democrats to solve the problem. The problem is campaign contributions, which the Plutocrats have just had their people pass a law to enable them to give even more money to bribe the politicians. This will allow them to run over those very few, pesky, honest ones that cause them problems, like Elizebeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.

(23,720 posts)He just sounds stupid when he tries to make the news. Political satire has been with us always. Hell there is political satire posted in caves in Egypt about the Pharaohs hundreds of years ago. No damn such thing as a surge in political comedy, Chucky.

I haven't seen any numbers of the 'increase in cynicism', but if it has in fact been on the rise, I'd say it's at least a healthy response to a very malignant reality. Our political reality could inspire nothing but cynicism, and it's been increasingly obvious over the last 15 years or so. The whole Iraq debacle alone (and the corporate media's role in it) ought to have been enough to make this a nation of cynics all on its own.

(44,173 posts)For someone with a political science background like Chuck Todd, he ought to know better. Hard hitting satire and incredibly nasty political cartoons go back to the days of the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans.
He's a good number cruncher (polls, election data, etc.), but that's about it.
