A Lesson for the DNC and Democratic Party Leadership:

"All propaganda must be presented in a popular form and must fix its intellectual level so as not to be above the heads of the least intellectual of those to whom it is directed. Thus its purely intellectual level will have to be that of the lowest mental common denominator among the public it is desired to reach. When there is question of bringing a whole nation within the circle of its influence, as happens in the case of war propaganda, then too much attention cannot be paid to the necessity of avoiding a high level, which presupposes a relatively high degree of intelligence among the public. "

<snip>

"But the most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly and with unflagging attention. It must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over. Here, as so often in this world, persistence is the first and most important requirement for success."
---volume 1, chapter 6 of Mein Kampf (1925)

Despite the source,
those words are as true today as they were then.
More importantly, they apply not just to Wartime Propaganda,
but to Marketing & Salesmanship of Party Ideals.
This lesson can be condensed into one simple acronym:
KISS!
or Keep It Simple, Stupid!

The Republican Party learned this lesson over 30 years ago.
Unfortunately, it hasn't yet dawned on the DNC or Democratic Party Leadership.
This IS precisely HOW the Republicans were able to defeat Gore in 2000,
and John Kerry in 2004 (stolen elections aside).

This is also how they have been able to give the current Party leadership such a hard time enacting a Traditional Democratic Agenda. Comprehensive Reform Packages that are several THOUSAND pages in length will always be defeated or de-fanged by KISS attacks. Legislation not only needs to be written,
it needs to be MARKETED to the American people,
or, in the words of Adolf,

"must be presented in a popular form and must fix its intellectual level so as not to be above the heads of the least intellectual of those to whom it is directed. Thus its purely intellectual level will have to be that of the lowest mental common denominator among the public it is desired to reach."

This was the great failing of the Health Care Reform effort of 2009.
Had the "comprehensive Package" been broken down into individual, Single Bill, Easy to Read and Understand Components that the "the least intellectual" of the American people could understand,
it could have NEVER been attacked as a "Big Government Takeover".

In the upcoming election, The Democrats would be wise to heed these words from Mein Kampf in
designing a marketing campaign for the Democratic Party.
It is not near enough to Win the DEBATES.
That counts for almost NOTHING to the American electorate.

Democrats need to:
* Keep It Simple and talk DIRECTLY TO "the lowest mental common denominator among the public."
All the smart people will already vote "Democrat",
so WHY waste time on THEM?

*Design and Stick TO a handful of resonating, easy to understand issues,

*Hammer these home every single time a Democratic Talking Head appears on the TV.

After the election, it is TOO LATE (and a waste of time) to blame "Stupid Voters",
Ralph Nader,
or the Media.
Those things are here to stay,
and a plan to deal with them and WIN is essential.
Keep It Simple, Stupid!

True Story (and one I tell often in this very RED rural area):
My father ("Daddy" when talking to Conservatives) made me promise that I would NEVER vote for a Republican
unless I had a MILLION DOLLARS In the Bank.
I've kept my promise.

KISS!

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

it has been, me included.

While others were actually pursuing whole sets of tactics to make our populace more amenable to perpetuating their goals-- increasing their quarterly profits. At all costs.

Numbing us out on brutal news, they've crossed the borders of torture and drone bombing to perpetuate the dominant position of our corporations, while beguiling us with lots of snacks and TV fun.

So what I mean is, while it creeps me out to be talking about the Nazi propagandists, it does seem like techniques of manufacturing consent have been well researched and are being implemented by our Republican friends and those driving them to do whatever it takes for their quarterly profits to soar.

So exposing the fundamental flaws of plutocracy seems like a good way to go.

I like what your daddy said.

I am glad to see that at least ONE person here at DU Got It,
and dared to comment.

That is the most provocative post I have ever penned in my 12 years at DU,
and I was surprised that it precipitated ZERO responses.

The truth is that Winning the Debates carries almost no weight with today's American Voters.
To get any traction, we must Dumb it Down.
