We spent eighteen million dollars testing the title, specifically the word “angry,”

FROM: Amy Pascal
TO: Scott Rudin

Don’t talk to me like I’m Joe Piscopo. I told you I’m not interested in a remake of “12 Angry Men.” And I explained why.

We spent eighteen million dollars testing the title, specifically the word “angry,” and no one wants to see a movie with the word “angry” in it. Our audience (males aged four to eleven) didn’t have a fully formed definition of “angry” (seventy-three per cent thought it was just the first word in “Angry Birds”). Nor were they able to correctly define the words “voir dire,” “deliberation,” or “jury.”
