the risk of causing some harm to anyone, and what is not.

I don't need our President or anyone else's to tell me that making a stupid, ridiculous, childish excuse for comedy, is the last thing I would want to waste time on.

But we do have a large contingency of extremely moronic people with money in this country. Which only goes to show that money doesn't equal intellect.

Watch it, don't watch it, who cares. I would prefer to watch water boiling myself and it has nothing to do with anyone telling me what to do.

Our culture seems to be deteriorating even rapidly than anticipated.

Elevating the discourse seems to be some kind of crime in our current culture. Hopefully we are just going through a phase.

they have to see it on line. But they can see it unlike in NK where they can't see anything and get death penalty for watching SK soap operas.

And take over their Internet, too!

U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!

The cultural attenuation associated with the mass manifests itself in a peculiar relation of the individual to major cultural symbols. On the one hand, he is only weakly affected by them; he does not reflect their pervasive influence in his habitual conduct. At the same time, however, he may develop a compulsive attachment to the symbols as such -not to their meaning- and to their institutional embodiments, especially if these attachments offer leverage for aggression. Thus it would be characteristic of the mass man to be only poorly influenced by the complex meaning of democracy, unable to make the necessary discriminations, with little conception of how to fulfil the value in his daily life; and yet he may be easily susceptible to manipulation by wielders of this symbol, will swear allegiance to it, and will be prepared to use any means (including those ordinarily interdicted by democratic principles) against its purported enemies. Similarly, mass elements in a church may have little understanding of basic religious principles and reflect nothing of them in their own conduct, yet they will characteristically respond with special fervor to the symbols of the church and be its most aggressive defenders. This ambiguous participation, both in symbolic and in institutional behavior, is fundamental to the mass.

Selznick, P. (1951, January). Institutional vulnerability in mass society. American Journal of Sociology, 56(4), p. 328.

Besides, the poster to whom I was responding asked, what if North Korea made a similar movie? The answer is they did and we just laughed...or didn't react at all.

it seems to me that a film depicting the assassination of a sitting head of state is something that's pretty much guaranteed to cause a diplomatic incident, at best.

Threats weren't issued against Japanese or Korean theaters; they were targeted at AMERICAN theaters.

That's how it became an "AMERICAN issue".

The mindless blind "patriotism" was off the charts across the internet and even here. Its sad to see that the post 9/11 mindset still exists.
