He’s a 9-year-old towhead, a sturdy kid who loves to speed skate at the ice rink, ride his bike in his neighborhood and dig large holes in the backyard — the latest, he says, is for a hot tub.

And he’s blind.

Oliver Egr has a degenerative condition called Batten’s disease. Eventually, he could lose his ability to communicate and forget much of what he’s learning in school.

To scores of kids in Yutan, Nebraska, and beyond, however, he’s simply a Christmas angel.
