Went to the doctor Friday a week ago for my checkup and the doctor talked me into having a flu shot! Two days later I started coughing in the morning and by bedtime Sunday night I had chest congestion a splitting sinus headache and was freezing to death. By bedtime Monday night I was talking out of my head with a fever and doubtful I'd make it until morning. All that saved me that night, was I kept laughing to myself thinking, how funny it was going to be when the doctor didn't get paid, because I was dying and the bastid wouldn't be collecting a thin dime!
By Wednesday the fever broke and reality came crashing down. I mailed out a check to my doctor for making me sick.
Seriously boys and girls, stay well away from the 2014 bug. Ten days later and I'm still not over this stuff!

(21,717 posts)But you went to the Dr's office, and there were probably people who went to the doctor for the flu. So while you probably got it from going to the doc's office, I don't think you got it from the doc or the shot.

(5,946 posts)doctor feels someone as old as me should get the shot every year.
Usually I get a bad cold, but if I get the flu I call the doctor immediately and get the flu stopper shot (tamiflu?) and am better in 2 days.
but the winter colds are another story, I do Christmas wrapping in stores and people are sneezing and coughing in the store and store bathrooms and on door handles. I get the cold from hell after Christmas and for that I bless Zicam.

(37,726 posts)This stuff is bad news. The school kids are lucky to be staying home for their midterm breaks. Schools being closed down, because of the flu in this area last week.
First time I've ever gotten sick after my flu shot.

(1,735 posts)to get your flu shot in Oct or early Nov. It takes a while for it to kick in. Been getting them for 20 years and never any reaction. If your over 60, don't forget the pneumonia shot every 7 or 8 years. Hope you're better soon.

(1,186 posts)Sounds more like a cold that got out of hand. All the more reason to be protected from flu. The combination could have been devastating.

(3,445 posts)Holy crap, this flu is horrible.
Two weekends ago on a Saturday I went shopping with a friend and her little girl, who was coughing all day. She didn't feel bad, just coughed. Sunday I had a horrible sore throat and was losing my voice. I made it through work on Monday, but Monday night I crashed and spent the next two days in bed with a high fever. When my fever broke on Thursday and I finally was able to get up and eat, I had lost 8 pounds in less than three days. Two weeks later and I still have a running nose and a foggy head.
Both my friends kids were diagnosed with the flu that Tuesday, and the entire family ended up with it as well. I don't know which strain of flu it was, but damn, it was bad. I usually am able to stay healthy during flu season, but I guess it was my turn.
Keep away from the flu!!!

(37,726 posts)this time made me remember how bad it is!
The unending headache and body ache for several days wore me out. I lost several pounds in about three days too. Food tasted like cardboard! Couldn't keep it down for several days. I hope Santa don't get this crud!
