It is both an opportunity to reach out to people outside of your movement to convince them to join it, and it's an opportunity to encourage solidarity and effort among those people who already support it.

CREATIVE TENSION – In his Letter from A Birmingham Jail, Dr. King said, “Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and establish such creative tension that a community that has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue…I must confess that I am not afraid of the word, tension. I have earnestly worked and preached against violent tension, but there is a type of constructive tension that is necessary for growth… the purpose of direct action is to create a situation so crisis-packed that it will inevitably open the door to negotiation.”

Unfortunately, like when Raygun gutted the unions through breaking the Air controller strike, Bush by ignoring millions in the USA and around the world to launch the Iraq Invasion without consequences, has informed the politicians that protests are now toothless.

The politicians only fear the corporations now, no longer the people. It is a recipe of course for disaster for the country and the elites long term, as any student of history knows....
