It is fundamentally wrong to celebrate and enjoy yourself when it is clear that the police feels free to kill black people with zero repercussions.
Return your presents. Send a note explaining why celebrating Christmas this year is morally wrong.
Spend tonight and tomorrow protesting.

In that order. Life is short my friend, a cosmic blink is all. Lets enjoy it while we can.

(16,038 posts)While I see obvious problem cases of police misconduct and even apparent racism, and most going unpunished. I am having a hard time not siding with police on most of the examples I have seen of people killed by police, either from the standpoint of justification or an understanding of human error.
360 degree camera and sound coverage on all officers and police vehicles should be the chant, not canceling Christmas (insert snicker and are you crazy look), firing an entire department, holding people to an impossible standard, or proclaiming racism where not a shred of evidence exists....

(32,068 posts)Give often, give generously. Those of us who can actually pay our bills (at least most months) should be sharing as much as we can. It will not solve the problem of the US government not taxing properly, but it is something we can do at any time - and especially at Christmas.
There is no doubt we need to protest as well, but I would submit that we can take a day or two to celebrate (at least those who wish to) with giving rather than receiving as the focus.

(771 posts)You can't cancel Christmas. Somehow it will come. That fact will forever get under a lot of people's skin. Which is kinda funny.

(21,578 posts)And frankly I resent your implication that it is. There are always horrible things going in the world but that shouldn't prevent those of us who bear no responsibility for them from expressing love for one another at this time of year. Quite the opposite in fact. The last thing the world needs is to show less caring for one another.
Or should my wife and I really track down the little girl we randomly handed a doll to in the mall the other day and take if away from her? What about our toys for tots donation (most of which is probably going to impoverished inner city blacks in my area)? Should we ask the marines to take all those away too?
"Morally wrong". Please.
