(13,616 posts)Especially as Poppy Bush, for all his evil, geuinely believed half the shit he did was right; his sons took the worst he had to offer, W. took the macho texan crap, Jeb took the ruthless crap, and neither of them have the guts to call the current scheme "voodoo economics" like their dad did.
However, you know if dad dies, the news will be gilding the shroud, so that Jeb can sneak under it.

(90,061 posts)Just to guy to finish the job of driving the country into the ditch while discrediting everything we once had to be proud of.
And yeah, hate makes you stupid, but I won't shed a tear for Poppy.

I can & do honor his WWII service in the Pacific flying against the Imperial Japanese Navy in the Battle of the Philippine Sea (late summer 1943) He stayed with one of his injured Air crew for 4 hours till he and his man got rescued bobbing up and down in the Pacific. That was brave. After that , well.....not so much. How do the nightmares keep you up you miserable fuck as you know death comes closer and closer.

(15,480 posts)Since Jeb is seriously pursuing a presidential nomination, how will the family fit W's "other brother", Bill, into the memorial services?
Former President Bill Clinton paid tribute on Saturday to a man who was once among his fiercest critics, lauding the late Richard Mellon Scaife's commitment to conservative causes and reflecting on the improbable friendship he eventually forged with the media baron.
Recently released papers from Clinton's presidential library identified Scaife as the "Wizard of Oz" behind the conspiracy theory about Foster's death, which held that the Clintons were somehow responsible.
"Scaife uses the $800 million Mellon fortune which he inherited to fund a virtual empire of right wing newspapers and foundations," explained an overview from Clinton's White House. "These newspapers and foundations, in turn, propagate Scaife's extremist views."

Oh, those rascal Clintons! As long as someone has the power and or $$$, the Clintons are available as BFFs.

(70,711 posts)with his trademarked finesse reportedly said to Jeb Crow Shrub that he/Shrub would do the eulogy because (paraphrase) "You know Bubba is going to try to do it. Better me than him."
All that lovey-dovey stuff is more like one-way from Bill to the B.F.E.E., with the B.F.E.E. two-facing him, since I clearly remember after the Fake impeachment that Poppy and the Shrubs reportedly were e-mailing or phoning one another with gleeful jokes about Bill's exploits.
Well, as the last scene in Primary Colors went, when Bill won after putting us supporters through the wringer, one supporter said to him, something like, we got you through all this, so now, "Don't break our hearts," and that is exactly what he continued to do. That's why some of us don't care about him anymore.

(15,480 posts)and when Bill Clinton has prepped his wife on how to handle his own death to maximum political advantage, I have little doubt he's also pre-planned how to maximize political advantage when any of the other former presidents die.

Excerpts from the link,
Starting on page 276, Klein begins by quoting the former president:
Im worried how my health will affect your campaign, he said. I have to do all I can to prepare the campaign playbooks, but I also have to accept the fact that if I fall by the wayside, you have to continue without me and make a positive thing out of it.
Obviously, you have to have a big state funeral for me, with as much pomp and circumstance as possible, he said. Im thinking maybe I should be buried at Arlington [National Cemetery] rather than at my library in Little Rock. After all, I was commander in chief for eight years and have every right to be buried at Arlington.
Im going to plan this thing out in detail. . . Wear your widows weeds, so people will feel sympathy for you. Wear black for a decent mourning period and make my death an asset. The images on television of the funeral and the grieving widow in black will be priceless. When Im gone, people will think only of my good points and forgive, if not forget, the bad. Ill be remembered in a positive light more in death than I was in life. That always happens. Everybody knows that. So youll have to take maximum advantage of my death.
It should be worth a couple of million votes, he said.
