LINCOLN — Nebraska’s Parole Board voted today to revoke the parole of a convicted killer who was given a rare opportunity at freedom.

Laddie Dittrich convinced top elected officials he had reformed his life and deserved a commutation of his life sentence for killing an Omaha man in 1973. Now, just a month after being charged with sexually assaulting a child, the 69-year-old Dittrich has officially squandered the opportunity.

“We cannot even consider continuing parole because of such an enormous and serious charge,” said Esther Casmer, one of three board members to attend Tuesday’s hearing at the Lincoln Correctional Center.

For now, Dittrich will remain at the Otoe County jail, where he is being held on $250,000 bail.
