Apple CEO Tim Cook Donates Big Bucks to HRC

Apple chief Tim Cook sent $8.5 million to the HRC for a project that focuses on LGBT rights in the South.

Having come out publicly back in October, Apple's CEO Tim Cook, the only openly gay Fortune 500 CEO, has decided to give back in the grandest of ways.

Cook has donated $8.5 million to the Human Rights Campaign's Project One America effort, which focuses on advancing LGBT rights in Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi.

"Thanks to his generous personal financial investment in the program, together we will move the needle forward at the local and state level, tearing down misconceptions and providing concrete protections for those who need it most," HRC president Chad Griffin wrote in a blog post announcing the donation last week.

Cook, who grew up in southern Alabama and attended Auburn University, has previously said his home state was moving "too slow on equality for the LGBT community." A bill to prohibit discrimination against LGBT Alabamians will likely be named after Cook when it is introduced in the legislature by state representative Patricia Todd next year.

and please don't mess with me tonight. It was the title of the article at the Advocate. We are now suppose to edit titles to calm people here, to educate them? Sadly DU does not know what HRC is? How fricking sad is that. People need to read what is posted and make the decision, if they are to lazy that is their problem, not mine.

THEY NEED TO READ! HRC does not mean Hillary and they are sadly lacking in information about LGBT if they if they ignore an article on the Human Rights Campaign

even if they also know what the Human Rights Campaign is.

Reading the headline alone therefore implies that Tim Cook is a Hillary supporter, which may or may not be true, I don't know.

If that is their first thought, then they are sadly misinformed. People here call themselves liberals and progressives, yet have no clue that HRC is a Human Rights Campaign? Are you serious? No wonder we lose elections.

Reading the headline alone therefore implies that Tim Cook is a Hillary supporter, which may or may not be true, I don't know.

Democrats are not that stupid, at least I hope they are not.

Guess that makes me a bad (or was it dumb?) progressive/liberal who causes election losses because I didn't first think of the Human Rights Campaign.

This is good, hopefully in the future this issue all become a none issue and people can love whom they want and be whom they desire.

I am not complaining about the money donated for the cause but it would have been nice if there was
not an issue with same sex marriages and everyone had evolved on LGBT. These funds could have gone to treating diseases and not homophobic ideas.

You got it Cha!!!! and you damn well read it. HRC is not all about Hillary. I have been taken to task to change the title of my OP. I did not write it. I posted it. If people here...all those progressives are so unaware of The Human Rights Campaign and what they stand for that is not my damn problem, it is theirs.

I love you Cha, for your ability to read and understand and not judge an article with a knee jerk reaction. YOU READ IT AND KNEW THE MEANING!

According to many here you are not progressive. You are very much right of left as am I and this President. Yet sadly we are the ones that know about LGBT rights, Tim Cook and The Human Rights Campaign.. Why is that? As allies, we know. Why do progressives not understand basic Human Rights? Why do they not know about The Human Rights Campaign?

Progressives my ass.

Truly. Love it!

Why do you assume "all those progressives" don't know what the Human Rights Campaign is? Tsk, tsk. Such a nasty little swipe on your part. Considering another DU loony-tune, VanillaRhapsody, constantly pimps Hillary Rodham Clinton at this site, it's not a stretch to think that good ol' Hill was being referenced in your headline. And newsflash: Avatars aren't visible until the thread is opened, so try another angle.

Sitting back now to watch how many times you/Cha rec your own thread. Go, DU Champion of Human Rights, go!

That's a fortune. He must be very, very rich. How did he make that kind of money? Oh, probably by violating the human rights of Chinese migrants. Maybe he should donate to them.

Undercover Video Reveals Harsh Conditions Inside Apple Supplier Factory

Workers are instructed to check boxes indicating that they will work standing up, and work nighttime shifts, according to the video. Shifts can run up to 16 hours at a time, and one undercover reporter -- the BBC did not say how many were sent in total -- said he had to work 18 days in a row after being denied time off, according to the video.

The BBC reporter said workers would sleep next to their equipment. Apple reportedly told the BBC that nap breaks are not unusual.

Does Tim Cook have to catch sleep next to a machine? No, but he gets rich off people who do!
