I have ordered a few things on-line and have shipped Xmas presents to family. Without exception, the packages that went via the post office were delivered before the estimated arrival date.
Tracking is easy, delivery notice specified the point of delivery, I.E. front door, side door etc.
I commend them for exceptional service.

even fragile things in the bad old days before bubble wrap. You just need to pack everything correctly and it will get there whatever service you use. I just preferred the USPS because they never woke me up during the day like the UPS bastard did before I disconnected the door buzzer.

7. I honestly don't know how Amazon and USPS can do what they do.

I kid you not, I ordered a couple items from Amazon Sunday evening (yesterday), and they arrived in the mail today, this afternoon. How the heck is that even possible? From online-order to door in less than 24 hrs??? To me, that is truly amazing.

For most items, a copy is stored either in Concord or Columbia, 20 and 90 miles from the city we live in (and sometimes love). UPS, on the other hand, has my package in town since Saturday and they still can't deliver it on Monday evening. At least Amazon is making it right, even though this is not their issue, and the 2nd year running for UPS issues @ Christmas. Can you say USPS and LaserShip?

I sent a package from outside of St. Louis around noon on Thursday. It got to Madison, WI by Saturday!
All of the packages I have sent to Tanzania are getting there in amazing time (2 weeks) and in great shape (not sure at what point the other branch takes over).

If the repubs want to privatize the PO they are going to face a big fight!

9. USPS is ALWAYS my first choice.

With the loss of daily mail in the process, they are going to rely more and more on package delivery to keep their edge with UPS and other delivery services. UPS is my second choice, as at least they are union workers.

The people at the US Post Office, on my recent visits, have ALL be exceptional. I know they are understaffed, and the lines get crazy, but that's how they meet the crisis of small budgets and paying good wages.

USPS put my package in someone else's mailbox. Luckily that person returned the item to me a few days later (but not after first opening the package and seeing if it was something they needed). UPS has also been hell to deal. This time of year, the drivers become extremely dishonest and lie about deliveries and attempted deliveries.

27. I always get stealth deliveries from UPS. They tap on the door and run. They are supposed to hand

deliver if you are home. The tap is intentionally so you probably won't hear. They can say they "knocked" and no one answered. I really wouldn't mind so much if I lived where no one would ever mess with packages. I've had it some stolen. So when I would have heard an honest knock at the door, I end up with a package just sitting out there and have no clue.

Everything I ordered came on time. My postman waits until the evening to return to the neighborhood to deliver packages. I haven't had go to the post office to pick up a package that I couldn't sign off on. My regular postman is awesome and I go out of my way to tell him he does a great job and I support him.

16. Counter clerks rock!

I was running late and didn't get the package out last week to my brother in Dallas. I wrapped everything in tissue so I could put it in a flex bag, and also so it wouldn't weigh as much. The counter clerk repacked it in an overnight envelope and taped the crap out of that thing, so it was $20, nor $45.

Mr k's USPS retirement helps keep this household afloat these days. Most of the postal workers we've known over the years have been hard-working individuals who care about their jobs and their customers.

I happen to have a singularly incompetent USPS person on my route, and things are routinely mis-delivered. Worse yet, I've had neighbors who've gotten my packages not bother to let me know.

But I did use USPS for the packages I sent this year, and all have been delivered in a very timely fashion.

21. I make a point of letting everyone who uses UPS and FedEx what crappy services they are. UPS is fine

if you have something heavy that you don't need in a hurry but god forbid you should need things in a few days. Our USPS is amazing and I contact sellers to ask why I can't get my stuff sent USPS when it costs the same. Also make it clear that it's the post office who delivers FedEx packages (80-90%) but it takes FedEx 7 days to ship them all over the country and the USPS a matter of hours to actually get them to me.

They won't change until enough of us complain. I also closed an account with a high-end men's retailer because they were snippy about why they don't use USPS. It costs the very same but takes twice as long but they have some sort of crappy contract to undercut the post office. Try it on EBAY and Amazon. Contact the sellers and ask them if you can have it shipped USPS and if it's a dollar or 2 more you are willing to pay. I check before I bid and make it clear I'm going to bid on items that I can get through the post office. Contact all the retailers you buy from online and ask them if they can send your parcels USPS. Lots of them will if you ask.

I get about 5 things of actual value/importance in the mail every year. For everything else, it's email. The wonders of the digital age never cease to impress. I went to direct deposit, online bill pay, online banking, and anything else I could years ago.

I make and sell light weight items on ebay and a couple other venues. The shipping costs for lightweight items are really reasonable with USPS and out of sight for UPS. Now heavy items comes out about the same. I never have problems with my items not getting to my customers and usually supper fast which I get lots of comments about the fast service.

I won't be happy at all if they leave us...........

It was delivered on Sunday, 12/21 by priority mail. I was shocked that they processed the application so quickly, that was the State department. But also surprised at the Sunday delivery.

I talked to my republican co-worker about post office and real reason why they are in trouble. Most of them have zero idea about the law that changed things.

She had nothing to say and changed subject to how bad Obamacare was...I asked why she called it that when it was basically Romneys plan.
