https://davidswanson.wordpress.com/2014/12/22/hey-white-people-repent/On Facebook & Twitter I recently made the following statement: To my white brothers & sisters: our participation in the #?BlackLivesMatter movement begins with our repentance & confession. A friend read this and asked if I could suggest any resources for repentance. Ill suggest one such resources at the end of this post, but I want to start by filling in my original statement just a bit.
During the past few weeks Ive wondered about how white people can participate in protests, marches, and movements for justice on behalf of black and brown people. This is worth thinking carefully about since the white protestors, like myself, are complicit in and beneficiaries of the very systems responsible for the injustices targeted by the protests. A white person presents at least two challenges in these settings: his presence is a reminder of the privilege and prejudice that makes the protest necessary and his formation within a white supremacist system makes his participation in a movement to dismantle such a system complicated.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Painting all white people as being guilty and involved in white supremacy. Poster didn't get the response they wanted on Facebook so they bring it here.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Dec 22, 2014, 07:46 AM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The article doesn't say all white people are guilty of white supremacy.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: How does the alerter know the OP didn't "get the response they wanted" on Facebook. This is just one thought/opinion from the Blogsphere. I seriously don't see how this paints all white people as members of the Aryan Nation or KKK. Alerter - you could have responded on the thread and come out of the shadows. -justanothergen

(31,828 posts)I have a hard time with the scripture/faith based approach.
It was okay in 50's and 60's - because the Church was the one place black folks could meet without getting their heads bashed until a white man blew up four little girls one Sunday morning.
We can use human reason to combat the unreasonable social construct we find ourselves in.

(28,862 posts)It's the way you are completely human with everyone you meet, such as those standing line with you, serving you, you serving them, talking in a waiting room, having coffee together at an event, protesting together, just being friendly.
It can be paying for the person's order in front of you and seeing them passing it on in the future, or that person paying for yours and you passing it on.
Just being human with each other. It pays off in a big way.
It does not have to be a big Saul to Paul conversion or repentance. Just the little things that add up.
Can you imagine the number of voters standing in line after the word gets out that the people there are friendly and passing it on?
