I'm sure you know this, but humans aren't the only species that experiences emotion. Elephants, for instance, are known to grieve when they come across the remains of another elephant.

Clearly, he didn't have the concept of CPR, but he did have the concept of friendship, loyalty, and trying to wake him. While he wasn't a "hero" in terms of reviving him, he did get him off the tracks until he could wake up from the shock. Regardless, it's still pretty advanced behavior - no surprise to a biologist or behaviorist, but some people can't believe that behavior from a "dumb animal."
