In north Philly. If the locals didn't kill me first, surely the police would stop me and question me. It's not right but it is a fact.

In a perfect world it shouldn't matter but it's not a perfect world.

and attire... on the bright side, smell is also a trigger. So the homeless also face that.

Unfortunately it is not just limited to the country.

But if you have issues believing this, next time you are at a store watch store security and who or what they focus on.

It comes from us, not the person perceived.

That said, anyone with an eagle on their shirt or belt buckle is suspicious.

Someone standing in the alley behind my chain link fence looking at my house for a long time would be suspicious, no matter who he or she was, and no matter the time of day/night.

Two teens walking down that alley together, of any color and almost any dress, talking to each other and acting like normal teens, laughing or shooting the breeze loudly, walking at the somewhat fast pace that teens do, not paying attention to the houses....not suspicious. (Although I still look at anyone who appears in the alley, since it's unusual and is used as access for breakins.)

Two teens walking down that alley, looking closely at the houses, not talking to each other like teens normally do, walking slowly....suspicious. Add to that the fact that it's nightime, more suspicious. Add to that those baggy jeans where their cracks show, torn t-shirts, generally unkempt appearance FOR A TEEN, that would maybe be more suspicious, but I don't even need to get that far.

Two neatly dressed middle aged people walking down that alley, walking slowly, not talking, looking at the houses - not suspicious.

Note that I don't mention race at all. That wasn't intentional. It's because that might be an added factor, but what would get my attention FIRST would be the appropriateness of their behavior, the appropriateness of where they are, their age, etc.

If I recall, GZ told the cops in the 911 call that some guy was acting like he was on drugs, walking funny or something. It's possible Martin was on the phone with gf or was texting, and was walking funny for that reason, not paying attention to where he was going, and not walking fast like most young people do (w/o running like a criminal, that is).

street as I was getting in my car. It was not really suspicious, just odd, like what the hell is someone else doing up at this hour? But now I have seen this person a few more time and I guess they must get off work at 5AM and walk home. If I was a more suspicious person I might have driven around the block or followed him that first day...I guess suspicious is in the eye of the beholder.

I would tend to worry more about a man than a woman. If I'm alone (I'm a small woman), I'm definitely more watchful of men than women. In fact, I can think of few times in all the different kinds of places I've lived when I've been suspicious of a woman.

If I'm honest, I think the way a person dresses would impact how worried or suspicious I'd be. I don't think overly much, but I do think it would matter at least a little, especially depending on the circumstances/location. I'd be lying if I said that a person in business attire is just as suspicious to me as someone dressed in really messed up clothes. Of course the attire depends on the area. I live near a college and it certainly isn't suspicious to me when someone college-aged walks by wearing, well, college kid clothes.

Of course where someone is and how they're acting matters too. If someone I don't know is walking around my neighbor's house when they're not home, I'm going to be a little to a lot suspicious. Frankly, because I live in a neighborhood with lots of families, anyone walking around after midnight might seem a little suspicious.

"Good Christians" you can bet they probably never go to church or even if they do they are probably crooks. I have had nothing but bad luck with companies who hide behind the cross to suggest they are moral and honest.

White men in suits everywhere thank you for grouping them together as one.
You have the makings of a potential great racist.

Many wear them when committing crimes because of all the video cameras.
But walking in a neighborhood with a hoodie?
Not so much, unless seen peering through windows of homes.
