http://www.lgbtqnation.com/2014/12/sorry-pfox-the-model-on-the-ex-gay-billboard-is-out-and-proud-not-a-twin/WWBT-TV spoke with Kyle Roux, the model from South Africa whose photographs were used in the billboard, who said he was shocked his image was used to promote gay-to-straight conversion therapy, especially because he is openly gay.
It just seems like there no place in todays world for an organization that is promoting this as being some kind of deviant or distasteful lifestyle, because Ive lived my life openly gay and happy for my entire life, he said.
Roux said the pictures were taken in a photo shoot nearly a decade ago. He said he signed away the rights and was told the pictures would be used in commercial and corporate ads and brochures.

(26,117 posts)how does one twin being born straight and the other being born gay prove that there's no such thing as being born gay?

Don't you know you're simply supposed to lie back and let great waves of hate wash over you??

(13,081 posts)Is that being gay definitely has a genetic component, but might actually be a genetic alteration that occurs in utero; they'd still be twins, but the straight one would be slightly different from the other one. Maybe the straight twin is in the closet, even to himself. Maybe this, maybe that.
But let's assume for a moment that the one twin wasn't born gay, and made a conscious decision to mate people with of the same sex. So what? What difference does it make? What difference does it make to anybody?

(26,117 posts)It certainly makes no difference to me.

(3,056 posts)that shows, at least in the case of identical twin male homosexuality, that in the 3rd or so week of embryonic development, when the testosterone kicks in there isn't enough for both embryos to become fully male. One gets enough for both the secondary sex characteristics and brain to be male, but for the second twin, only enough for the physical, but not the mental.
Interesting theory, and it could explain a lot.

(2,529 posts)If some people have sexual preferences due to hormonal, chromosomal, adrenal, brain chemistry or even, yes, even personal choice. Studies now say that women get more sexual interest in their own gender as they age. I guess I have something to look forward to.

(13,081 posts)That's actually added the part about what if this what if that.
I have a close, beloved relative that chose to be a lesbian for decades because of the absolutely horrific things that men had done to her, things really far too disturbing to repeat.
I had a very close friend who decided he was gay after a four year stint in a NY prison for marijuana.
It should make no difference, but it does. I just feel for my gay brothers and sisters: I know what their difficulties are like very well, but nothing to their severity.

Don't even get me started on the story they use from the Bible to explain their anti-gay hatred. Apparently, Lot taking his daughters up to a cave and letting them take turns having sex with him is preferable to someone who is gay.
The people who think that way are twisted, sick fucks. No way around it. So, if you don't think like them, I would not color you stupid, just not a twisted, sick fuck.

But wouldn't you think that experts at gay conversion therapy would be able to spot one from a mile away? Aside from that, what made them think they thought they could get away with calling him a twin?
P.S: By any chance, would the straight twin is the one in the suit.
P.P.S: If one identical twin was gay and the other was not (which I am sure exist), wouldn't that PROVE that it's possible to be born gay?

(50,557 posts)They also believe an imaginary man created the earth and everything on it in 144 hours, people used to live for 900 years when there were no doctors and it was legal to kill ya for giving someone the stink eye, a guy who magically created 400 gallons of wine to rescue a party from alcohol starvation doesn't want anyone to drink, and thirteen single men in their early 30s who lived in an era when they issued you your first wife five years after puberty weren't openly gay.

(35,077 posts)This assumes that one's genes completely decide everything, a person could have a gene that is linked to being gay (I'm pretty sure there is more than one though), and yet they will be completely straight. It's simply a predisposition.
There is a similar field of research for identical twins and schizophrenia, some twins both have schizophrenia; but about half of identical twins studied, one has it and the other does not. Yet, nobody disputes that there is some sort of genetic link to schizophrenia.
PFOX and other right wingers want biological determinism, they want the idea that your genes determine who you are from birth, but at the same time they don't want people to be gay, so they have to cook up these things so they can deal with their cognitive dissonance.
who's surprised that an anti-gay "conversion therapy" organization would completely fabricate information for an advertising campaign? I guess when your entire career is spent lying to yourself, lying to others just becomes second nature.

"*NOTICE - PFOX is well aware that the model used on their new billboards is openly homosexual and not a twin. The individual's image was used by advertising agencies per his contract like any other advertising deal. To see real twin stories visit the PFOX website."

(44,576 posts)WHY did they claim that he WAS? And if PFOX really has a supply of "real twins" in their human arsenal, why not do an ad based on one of THEIR stories?
Methinks PFOX hath just handed Mr. Roux grounds for a libel case -- stock photo or not.

(520 posts)If you read "One gay. One not." from left to right, doesn't that imply the one with the suit is the gay one? I think that's the opposite of what they were intending.
Really, they need a big arrow or giant scarlet "A" to make sure Americans don't get this confused. You don't want Americans to think that all those "makers" on Wall St. are all gay.

Edit to add a serious note, if the model's photo that was used is a guy guy, can't he have grounds to sue for their using his image? Lawyers, let us know if there are firm legal grounds for litigation here.

(9,688 posts)But this usage seems to be so personally damaging to Kyle Roux, focussed to present a lie about him, as an individual and not just as a photograph, in such an intimately personal way, that if there isn't a law then then there ought to be a law that allows him public redress.
