Other hawkish Democrats also served on CLI's advisory board—including former Rep. Stephen Solarz of New York and former Sen. Robert Kerrey of Nebraska—but the committee's staff and board were dominated by Republican Party stalwarts and people associated with neoconservative institutions like the American Enterprise Institute, including Jeane Kirkpatrick, Robert Kagan, Newt Gingrich, Richard Perle, William Kristol, and James Woolsey.10 CLI's president was Randy Scheunemann, a longtime Washington lobbyist who has served as a campaign adviser to McCain. -
