The Prepper Store got robbed.

All those years of worrying about defending themselves in case of an impending government attack. All those practice runs in the woods. All those guns. All that target practice.

And they got robbed in the middle of the night. Lots of guns and supplies gone. Done in by your plain ole garden variety thieves. I guess they just backed up a truck and loaded it up with stuff. And to my knowledge no one is in custody for the crime.

Ironic.

street from me. Happened in the very small town of Riverside where there are still a whole lot of second amendment people.

I've been meaning to go in that store but haven't worked up the guts yet. I know I will end up saying the wrong thing.

Especially if you've invested a bunch of money and time in collecting the supplies.

Of course if it's a store then insurance should pick up the tab assuming they have a accurate inventory. What did the DVR cameras show? Why didn't the alarm system work?

You make it sound like a private residence was robbed but then a business? Are the owners actual preppers or just selling stuff to the prepper types and don't follow the lifestyle?

I didn't realize that preppers were so big around here.

I have a friend that is a FEMA disaster agent and she has a whole lot of food and stuff stored in her house. Her freezer is full of batteries. The cupboards are full of canned things and dry goods. And the basement has all kinds of food including all kinds of instant meals.

Me? I don't even have enough for 2 meals at home.

The gangsters don't want your game systems, single cup coffee makers, or big screen televisions. It's easier for them to sell some gang wholesale drugs and buy those consumer toys at Wal-Mart like everyone else.

But the Wal-Marts here don't sell guns because they got in trouble for selling them to gangsters.

So the gangsters wait until Joe Gun Owner goes off to work, break into his house, and steal all his guns. They've been known to take entire gun safes. Open garage door, park truck inside, detach gun safe from wall or floor, lift safe into truck, open door, drive away.

The other common sort of burglary is addicts looking for pills. My brother, who lives in a more, um, interesting neighborhood than I do, has surprised two of them rummaging through his medicine cabinet, both of them women frail from drug abuse, much more sad than terrifying.

At one house a 7-11 store, visible from our front porch, got robbed a couple of time a year.

But we never got robbed or burglarized, probably because it was pretty obvious we had nothing worth taking.

in case of the Apocalypse or some other huge event where it will be everyone for themselves.

Some of these guys actually build big underground bunkers. I saw one where the dude had dug out a whole area under his house and actually had a small mobile home down there for everyone to live in.

There were a lot of these guys building bomb shelters when I was in grade school and junior high. It's the same principal. Lots of supplies stored up and lots of guns to protect yourself.

But I use it every summer when backpacking and then just replace what I use. I am not worried about the government enforcing martial law or being invaded by a foreign nation. I do consider what would happen if there was a natural disaster like a massive earth quake or Volcanic eruption. Some of my friends tease me about being a prepper but it's not like I am building bomb shelters or stocking guns and ammo.

They figured being at the top of the list when they start taking everybodies guns away was a bad move on their part.
What with all the advertising and such. Wasn't good to tell the world what side they was on.

Honest officer, somebodies done come and tooken all our guns. Now we is without any protection, excepting you guys.
So tell those boys in D.C. to back off and we is going back to tend to our chickens.

It's kind of like worrying about getting hit by a huge comet. Might happen but most probably won't in my lifetime.

When I was growing up there were a lot of people who were scared to death of an atomic attack by Russia. We all grew up with that fear. We had drills at school. We knew people building bomb shelters.

A whole lot of people spent a whole lot of time worrying about something that never happened.
