In February, remember, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner would have absolute control over every punctuation mark in spending legislation.
So, what was the path to a better deal?

(9,462 posts)The tea party said the same thing when they shut down the gov't. They "needed to stand on principle" blah, blah, blah. How did that work for them? Principle is fine and well if you can actually accomplish your goals.
There were three choices, none of which you have mentioned.
1. Let the gov't shut down
2. Sign a 60 day continuing resolution and let the all Republican congress come up with a budget
3. Negotiate the best deal you can and pass it now.
Tell me which one of those is "standing up for the people". I imagine A. which is to shut down the government, but then what? Will the Republicans be more inclined to drop the Dodd-Frank provisions when the American people are pissed at the Democrats?
Tell me what they do after they shut down the government to get the budget deal they want.
Stop with the platitudes and give real, workable answers.
