McCaskill on torture report: 'Gut check moment'

http://www.politico.com/story/2014/12/claire-mccaskill-cia-torture-report-113387.html?hp=l3_4

Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill said Monday that she supports the upcoming public release of a Senate Intelligence Committee report on CIA interrogation practices, calling it a “gut check moment.”

“It exposes what the world already knows and that is that the United States engaged in torture, but my feeling about this is that this is a gut check moment for our democracy,” the Democrat said on “CBS This Morning."

McCaskill said the release of the report is “essential” in holding the government and specifically the CIA accountable.

“This report would never happen in North Korea, or China or Russia,” she added. “If it doesn’t come out, then we all need to get comfortable with the fact that in America, the CIA has no oversight.”
