(11,304 posts)on a sign for prom queen. I never went to the prom. I just thought it was a waste of my hard earned money. I guess it was just me. I didn't want to spend a $100 on a gown. Today girls are spending outrages prices on gown. Whatever happened to the good old prom night at school where you just had fun. Many spend money for the band and refreshments.

(6,801 posts)Higher for those in the lower income brackets, which is absurd.
I get wanting to have a fun party and all but really people need to put things in perspective. 1,300 for someone earning under 50k is a significant portion of their total income.

(6,801 posts)Spend a hundred bucks on meat/charcoal and ask everyone to bring a side.
That sounds about ideal to me.
But everyone's different I guess.

(6,801 posts)I'm sure when Brandy is in her 30s and swamped in student loan debt she will look back fondly on her time as prom queen (assuming she wins).

(68,918 posts)the stops for her. It's not what I would do, but I don't really care.

(18,635 posts)On a national scale this would be like Mitt Romney spending billions to paint "Romney 2012" across the face of the moon. Everybody would see it, but no one would like it. Critics would question who he thinks he is to go to such excess for an election.
This prom queen mother just bought a $1,000 worth of advertising for the competition. Nice job, dumbass.

(12,272 posts)Thank you for the link, I hope others will read it.
They may consider it overboard, but I dont look at it like that, she said. I look at it like its a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make memories This is her last prom. Shes never going to be in high school again and I wanted her to have the best moment possible during her last school year.

(15,220 posts)Sounds to me like a mother trying hard to live vicariously through her daughter.
I hope the daughter is a strong individual. She is going to need to be.

(53,521 posts)...her daughter being Prom Queen is more important than paying for college. This kind of idiot parent is sadly common.

(12,272 posts)The girl has mild cerebral palsy, mom wanted to do something wonderful for her. She plans to go to college to become a Pediatrician.
