It's a long hard road to get to a point where there is more empathy than defensiveness coming from white people.

(5,018 posts)I was at protest march last night in Seattle, and standing next to me is a woman with a water bottle, and the cop points and asks her what is in it or what is it, couldnt hear exactly, she answered some benign information, that it was just water probably.
Other than that I saw no interaction between us and the cops, the cops blocked the street and we just stood there...
I wish more of the people walking by would have joined in..
But this is downtown Seattle where the richest people shop, cops dont want a single problem there, you can be sure they were instructed by the powers not to cause a problem.

(17,997 posts)Across the country. It seems that the larger the city, the better they are behaved. Not great anywhere that I have heard, except Palo Alto, but better in Chicago and NYC than in Berkeley and Phoenix.
Yes, these statistics are outrageous. Mind boggling.
