The Chickenhawk Hall of Shame, The New Hampshire Gazette list

http://www.nhgazette.com/display/?id=87

Name: Willard Mitt Romney
Rank: Chickenhawk First Class with Distinguished Fleeing Cross
Date-Of-Birth: March 12, 1947
Home State: Michigan
Missed Opportunity: Vietnam War
Excuse: None to speak of
Preferred Activity: Trying to talk people into becoming Mormons
Occupation: Climbing ambition's greased pole

When your daddy's a Governor and a Cabinet Secretary, it's amazing how your odds of being drafted diminish.

Of course Theodore Anthony "Ted" Nugent is on the list too.

But whew, here it is:

Legend has it that this was NOT originally the work of a Gazette reporter, but of someone who published it on his web space through an ISP owned by the Gazette. They liked it so much, they offered him a free lifetime account in exchange for running it on NHGazette.com!

But it is their support of sending others to war that makes them Chickenhawks, not just their "opting out" of serving themselves.

Of course, none of his five sons would ever think of serving, either. To die in GOP wars is the responsibility of other people's children, and certainly not those of his wealth and "class."

He's a fraud and repugnant. That's him on the right.

Fortunate Son
Recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Written by John Fogerty

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no

Yeah!
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no

Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer More! more! more! yoh

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, one

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no no no
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son, no no no

So many more Democratic legislators served in the military than did Republicans.

And so many hawkish pundits did not serve.

The Mormon church was authorized to issue their own deferments, and of course Mitt got one, he also was sent to France as his dad was running as the anti-Vietnam war candidate for president in the republican primary.

No Romney (meaning Mitt's direct male line, not just anyone named Romney, of course) has ever served America in uniform, including his five healthy sons, and his father in WWII.

One of Romney's many reversals is that he now says that he "longed" in many ways to be serving in Vietnam.

Of course about 70% of the men who served in Vietnam were volunteers, unlike WWII, when about 70% of the serving were draftees.

None of Romney's direct line has ever been captured by the draft, or by an impulse to volunteer, seems weird when we are talking about 170 years of family history.

Mormons have a history of wanting to take over the US government, they feel that the US government has been unfair to them.

Thank you for the history of the Rmoney chickenhawks.

Utah ranks about 47th-48th, in enlistments per capita, yet you will see Mormons portrayed as a kind of super patriotic religion.

Appearances and public image are very important to them, the reality of who they are is so much different. I lived and worked in Salt Lake City, I know.

You are quite knowledgeable, thank you for chiming in on this discussion.
