My friend is suffering from PTSD listening to reports about all these cop killings.

Twenty seven years ago my friend was a 17 year old kid sitting in a car at night with her boyfriend, in a small Southern state. Suddenly out of the blue a cop car pulls up and starts shooting at them. Her boyfriend slumped over on her as the cops were screaming for them to get out of the car. She complied and also pulled her dying boyfriend out. He lay on the ground, while none of the police did anything to help him. An ambulance finally showed up, but it was too late. After this horror was all over, it came out that the cops mistakenly identified her boyfriend as a drug dealer they were after. Oops. But, unfortunately for any chance the family had of finding justice, the brother of the cop who killed her boyfriend was the local D.A. I think you can guess the rest of the story.

She's been in therapy for many years and is doing great! She's an awesome mom, has a great career and is very active in our community. But this should have never happened.

That must have been a terrible experience. Glad to hear that her life is going

well, in other ways, at least.

Although justice wasn't served back then, she's thinking about publishing what she went through. She has become a very gifted writer, so it would not be hard for her.

and probably somewhat cathartic.

When you said she couldn't get justice because of the shooter being the DA's brother,
I get that entirely, but did that eradicate the possibility of her or her boyfriend's family
filing civil charges as well?

would take the case. These were not wealthy people, and everything would have had to be done pro bono. The internet and social networking didn't exist then or maybe they could have found a high powered attorney to take the case. Anyway they were sadly beaten down by the "system."

Beloved by so many. This horrible event has, of course, haunted her for years, but she's a survivor.

just sayin. Of course after enough time has passed it's hard to get anyone to care about justice.
