Omaha couple's 3rd child was born in same place as their 2nd: on 42nd Street exit ramp from I-80

Older brother Ethan Kam, 3, looks on as Sarah Kam holds 1-day-old Evelyn, who was born on an Interstate exit ramp Thursday night. “We wanted to avoid this happening again,” dad Hugh Kam said of a roadside birth. “But it not just happened, it happened in the same place. ... Lightning does strike twice in the same place.”

The labor pains were coming about five minutes apart. So Sarah and Hugh Kam decided it was time to get in the car and go have that baby Thursday night.

They figured they would have enough time to travel from their home in northwest Omaha to the Midwife’s Place in Bellevue.

But just in case, Kam covered the leather seats in his Lexus.

Just in case they had to pull off the highway and deliver the baby in the car as it sat on the side the road.

As for the "just leave early" crowd, how ridiculous.

I left the same as this woman, when contractions were less than 5 minutes apart, and I still labored for many hours and sometimes over a day in some cases with mine.

Every person is different. I wish my labors had been as easy as this mom's, but she had no way of knowing when labor would start or how fast it would progress. Geez. Women give birth, we're not frickin' psychic.

Kudos to a beautiful family.

Raspberries to those who can only criticize and not offer congrats.

Five days is waaaaay too long between light cycles.

Seriously, what a nice looking family there.
