given the present situation with gun culture and crime in general in the US of A, somehow, I just don't think that would quite work.

Patrol officers to have weapons secured in vehicle with remote locking devices to be opened by a sergeant or higher when needed.
Vehicle weapon banks should include a pistol w/a single full reload, A shotgun with no more than 7 rounds of lethal ammo (with 7 rounds of non lethal subjugation ammo), and a manually cycled .30cal rifle (not full or semi automatic) with no more than 10 rounds.

Patrol officers could carry non lethal weapons (baton, taser, or chemical spray).

We can actually improve on that; we could additionally charge $50 (say) a bullet. That should slow them down on expending bullets.

We don't need to charge them for the bullets. Just make it so that they face a whole lot more scrutiny for when they do shoot someone or beat someone to death or brutialize someone short of death.

Most cops in the UK are unarmed, after all. But until this happens (and I am not holding my breath) I think cops here need to be armed.

9. IMO, police should value human life enough to take that extra nanosecond and think first.

Seems like some cops don't even try and use their brains, just their GUN.
