Brooklyn killing: Grand Jury to be impaneled.

Brooklyn Grand Jury to be impaneled in case of Akai Gurley, unarmed Black man shot by police as he left his girl friend's apartment.
He was on the way to visit his mother who lives in Florida, for the first time in two years.

"That night, Gurley and his girlfriend were walking down the stairs to get out of the Louis H. Pink Houses in East New York as NYPD officer Peter Liang and his partner were conducting a floor-by-floor sweep of the building, and the 28-year-old was shot when he stepped out onto a landing."

His death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner.

oh, yeah, and...

According to a New York Daily News exclusive report, Liang and Landau couldn't be reached for more than six minutes after the shooting. Sources who spoke with the newspaper say the officers were texting union reps about the incident while Gurley lay dying.

"In the critical moments after the Nov. 20 shooting, the cops' commanding officer and an emergency operator—responding to a 911 call from a neighbor and knowing the duo were in the area—tried to reach them in vain, sources said," the Daily News reports.

It's time to leave the typing and put on my walking shoes. I was there in '63.

about it. I'm not going.
I'm glad it's happening, but I prefer local ones.
I'm upset I missed one yesterday in my town, that closed a highway.
woo-hoo.
I've been to so many, I had decided to take some time off. But I like ones that close roads.

I don't think people will get protest-weary. I think the momentum keeps building.
and the cops are very obliging, they keep killing, and the grand juries are cooperating too, as they keep refusing indictments.

I could continue the list. Any case where an unarmed person is shot by the police, whether they have a criminal record or no, is worthy of "actually" getting behind.

As I told a friend of mine, white people do not get to tell black people which murder they "get" behind. White people don't get to tell the black community that one person is more deserving of our outrage than another.

Police shootings where the person is culpable by their actions will NEVER go away and NEVER be charged regardless the race. Furthermore pretending that black people are the only unarmed people shot by police is simply ignorance of the truth or worse.

Getting their stories straight.

Doing a piss poor job of it, too, seems to me.

The old one was in there too long and we lucked out that Thompson ran and beat Hynes last year.

The SI guy is too close to law enforcement so he was never going to ask for an indictment.
