Thank you Sen. Tammy Baldwin!!

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin announced today that an effort she has championed in Congress will finally be resolved with a provision in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Senator Baldwin’s provision in the NDAA, a major step forward for the project started in 1997, will transfer Badger Army Ammunition Plant land and allow it to be put to its agreed upon reuse.

“I have been working on this since I first entered Congress, so I take great pride in bringing people together, giving the community a voice, and getting the job done,” said Senator Baldwin. “I am pleased that hard work and persistence has paid off with this agreement. This helps solve a long standing problem and is a big win for the community.”

“This land transfer has been held up in bureaucratic proceedings for far too long. Senator Baldwin’s legislative provision will finally allow the land to be transferred and for our People to preserve and protect this special place,” said Ho-Chunk Nation President Jon Greendeer. “We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Senator Baldwin and her office for her unrelenting determination to see this transfer take place. “

“It is not often that Native nations have their ancestral lands returned. This land transfer demonstrates the power of collaboration between tribal nations and the federal government,” said Representative Susan Waukon, Ho-Chunk Nation – District 1. “We are truly humbled and cannot express our gratitude enough for Senator Baldwin’s commitment and hard work over the years.”

federal land to the Native Americans who once owned it. The GOP is fighting to give federal land to miners to extract copper. See the difference?

Interesting how a true liberal like Tammy manages to win a state-wide election in Wisconsin, but Republican-lite candidates like Mary Burke and Tom Barrett lose to right-wingers.

11. Not a fan of Tate at all. But could he have made that happen?

I'm not sure, and don't know if Tate could have changed much.

WI law required the recall effort couldn't formally begin until January of 2012.

The Dem primary had to have a chance to get organized, the GAB wanted to meet their obligation to have the special election as soon as possible.

As it went, during the primary there were more total votes for Dems than for Walker, which may have given a false expectation for the special election. The geographic pattern of voting seen in the primary was typical for Wisconsin.

The voters chose to rerun Barrett. IMO, a poor choice as he had just lost to Walker, but the field of candidates was pretty poor as legislative leaders involved in the statehouse confrontation who would have been natural choices declined to run.

The consequence was that the geographic pattern of the special elections showed the now familiar pattern associated with highly motivated tea-party/anti-Milwaukee voters.

12. He certainly could have advised that the election wait until November. He did not.

As a "pro" he should know these things. Either he didn't know, or he did but and did nothing about it.

So, IMHO, he's either incompetent or actually working for the other side.

At that point I think Tate wasn't working for the other side.

I don't think I can say anything that would or should dissuade you from your alternative.
