Hackers Threaten Sony Employees in New Email: ‘Your Family Will Be in Danger’

Hackers have struck again at Sony Pictures Entertainment, threatening employees of the studio in a new email obtained by Variety.

The GOP group, which hacked Sony on Nov. 24, said it planned to eradicate all of Sony Pictures Entertainment. The author of the email, written in broken English, made only a single demand.

“Please sign your name to object the false of the company at the email address below if you don’t want to suffer damage. If you don’t, not only you but your family will be in danger.”

Read the email in full:

I am the head of GOP who made you worry.

Removing Sony Pictures on earth is a very tiny work for our group which is a worldwide organization. And what we have done so far is only a small part of our further plan. It’s your false if you if you think this crisis will be over after some time. All hope will leave you and Sony Pictures will collapse. This situation is only due to Sony Pictures. Sony Pictures is responsible for whatever the result is. Sony Pictues clings to what is good to nobody from the beginning. It’s silly to expect in Sony Pictures to take off us. Sony Pictures makes only useless efforts. One beside you can be our member.

Many things beyond imagination will happen at many places of the world. Our agents find themselves act in necessary places. Please sign your name to object the false of the company at the email address below if you don’t want to suffer damage. If you don’t, not only you but your family will be in danger.

Nobody can prevent us, but the only way is to follow our demand. If you want to prevent us, make your company behave wisely.

I can't say I'm surprised; I was in IT -- they never did pay much attention to computer security.

We took two big hits before somebody decided that anti-virus software should be more than "the user's responsibility".

I would occasionally wander though some the other department directories just to see what was there.

Where I work now I only have access to directories that are needed for the particular project I'm on.
Everything else is blocked off.

Sony Pictures allegedly inflicted on these people?

I can't make sense of why they are being targeted and what the hackers are trying to accomplish.

Thanks in advance for any information.....

It's a comedy about a tabloid TV show celebrity and his producer that learn that Kim Jong-un is a fan of their show.
They arrange to go to North Korea for an interview but are recruited by the CIA to assassinate him.

This has apparently angered Kim Jong-un and his minions.

"Pyongyang has written to the White House to demand that President Barack Obama intervene to halt the release of 'The Interview', a Hollywood comedy blockbuster that pokes fun at Dear Leader Kim Jong-un.

"Denouncing the film as the work of "gangster moviemakers", North Korean state media said the storyline is "a wanton act of terror" and has threatened to carry out "merciless countermeasures" unless it is cancelled.

"After that initial appeal to Hollywood fell on deaf ears, Pyongyang sent a letter of protest to Ban Ki-moon, the secretary general of the UN, insisting that permitting the production and distribution of a film based on the assassination of a serving head of state is an "act of war". "

The problem is, The Interview isn't a Sony Pictures movie. It's a Columbia Pictures movie.

The Sony studio is on the old MGM lot and half the signs inside are for Columbia movies mixed in with buildings and streets named for old MGM performers.

Louie B Mayer would probably roll over in his grave if he learned that Columbia was located on the MGM lot today.
MGM was the premier, top class studio while Columbia was considered to be the lowest, bottom barrel studio.

Thanks for the info. The website for the movie said Columbia Pictures.

At any rate, it's beyond ridiculous that a foreign government hacks computers because they don't like a MOVIE!
