There are five boroughs in the City, each a separate County. County District Attornies are independently elected (the Staten Island DA is a Republican) and are considered State rather than City officials.

(56,582 posts)Brooklyn is "King's County", Queens is helpfully "Queens County", and the Bronx is "Bronx County".
Manhattan is "New York County", and Staten Island is "Richmond County" (and the entire island is, properly, called "Richmond" .
Still, once you get used to it, it makes sense.

Brooklyn is Kings County.

Queens and the Bronx are what they are, though.

(21,925 posts)with political considerations in mind especially when their offices handle high profile cases. They should strictly focus on obtaining justice, not how best to get re-elected, or moving up to run for state attorney general. It disturbs me that you mention the D.A. in Staten Island is a Republican as I have always deplored the fact politics has affected our justice system. Other countries in the world don't have these positions run for office. Maybe term limits would help and maybe we could pass laws prohibiting DAs from ever running for any other office. I know that politically ambitious DAs see the position as a way into a political career and try to advance from DA to Attorney General to Governor to Senator, etc.
