Ted Nugent will plead guilty to illegal black bear hunt

Embarrassment to hunters everywhere.

Nugent, 63, was on Alaska’s Sukkwan Island in May 2009 filming an episode of his Outdoor Channel television show, “Ted Nugent Spirit of the Wild,” which is described on his website as the “ultimate hands-on conservation lifestyle television show.” According to court documents, he was bow hunting near a bait station designed to attract black bears when he fired an arrow that wounded a bear, which then ran off.

Nugent “failed to locate and harvest the wounded black bear,” the plea agreement said, and then four days later, he shot and killed another black bear at one of the registered bait sites and then transported it off the island.

The problem: Alaska hunting regulations say the first wounded bear fulfilled his bag limit; the second one was an illegal kill. Transporting it off the island made it a violation of the federal Lacey Act.

This is an ass turd if I ever saw one.

First of all, I don't understand the pleasure in hunting down God's creatures for sport. I think there is an underlying psychological deficiency such as a need to dominate. I can understand when this was to provide for your family. But today it is purely for sport and this is no "sport". The hunters have technology in the form of infrared radar, high-power rifles, etc. that change this from a fair contest of man versus animal to shooting fish in a barrel.

And Nugent is probably not capable of anything else. He is so full of hate. I would almost feel sorry for him but maybe next time on his bear hunt it will be more fair and the bear has a chance at winning.

Apparently the arrow grazed the bear and stuck in the ground.

Since there was some blood where the bear was hit, the animal counted towards Nugent's bag limit of one bear.

Failing to pursue and kill a wounded animal AND not complying with the law, which conscientious hunters know are in place to CONSERVE animals for the ecology AND future hunters.

near a bait station and then could not track it. (spits with disgust)

"Spirit of the Wild ultimate hands-on conservation lifestyle television show" my ass.

The bear may have suffered a slow, agonizing death. That's Truly Terrible, Ted. Bear meat is greasy and tastes like shit anyway. I don't understand why some people get jollies from killing critters if they are not going to eat them.

Many bow hunters don't practice regularly, some don't practice at all, and they can't hit the broad side of a barn at 20 yds. Many couldn't track a lone old heifer with diarrhea in a rodeo ring with 6 inches of fresh snow on the ground.

People should have to take a strict practical Bow and Arrow proficiency test before they are allowed to hunt with a bow. Bow hunting is a precision skill, and you have to be very good at it to make a kill shot. Far too many animals get wounded by unskilled bow hunters that can't track.

but I'm guessing Nugent didn't wrestle with the bear then kill it with his own hands.

That kind of bear hunting I'd be ok with.

But killing a large predator (which is next to worthless as meat and doesn't need culling) simply for a trophy strikes me as a bit silly when you're up to half a mile a away and the animal has no chance really.

Veteran writer, outdoorsman, conservationist, expert of all things outdoors Jim Zumbo voices his opinion on automatic weapons, saying there is no place for them in hunting. In the furious melee which followed, his show on the channel was cancelled, his reputation ruined, and, to add insult to injury, he was trudged to Texas to go automatic weapon hunting with one Ted Nugent in an attempt to rehabilitate his hook and bullet status. He was stalked, threatened, and otherwise humiliated by the very sportsmen he had been entertaining and educating for more than forty years. Nugent, on the other hand, gets convicted in Alaska, thrown out of Michigan for game law violations, fined in California for illegal hunting activities, dodges the draft, has sex with underage girls, and, to top it off, threatens bodily harm and mayhem to a sitting president of the United States. Still, he is the patron saint of this so-called family-oriented network. Well-thanks but no thanks. Neither Ted nor his network will be welcome in my home.

It's been illegal to hunt with an automatic weapon in every state for many decades. Considering that it's been against the law to import into and manufacture in this country automatic weapons for sale to civilians, those weapons that can be legally owned are very expensive. A fully automatic AK-47 in good condition is worth about $16,000.00 to $20,000.00.
Take that automatic gun out hunting and one isn't looking at paying a fine and doing community service. You're looking at spending many years in Federal prison.

But yeah, I think the hunting charge itself would be enough to endanger Nugent's NFA tax stamps.

I don't doubt you found one for $6k. The ones I've seen, after doing much searching on the internet, were in the price range I mentioned. Other sites stated they had one or two available but you had to call to get the price which I didn't do.

A rather crucial distinction, given that AR-15 style rifles are now the most popular centerfire rifles in America. His downfall was entirely self-inflicted for promulgating such an absurd point of view.
