I can kind of understand Ferguson. There was a lot of differing information and while one can say that should have been sorted out in court, at lease there was some level of doubt and confusion as to what happened. Up in New York though it was clear as crystal. There was a video of the cop killing the guy with a move banned for use by police. Yeah, it wasn't first degree murder and the cop didn't intend to kill him most likely. That is exactly the reason we have charges like involuntary manslaughter.
Seriously, what the hell is wrong with the grand jury system.

(36,063 posts)That's depraved. Pretty much every adult in America is aware that choking can kill.
When you go ahead and choke someone ignoring the risks that might attend cutting of an air-supply and ignore when that person's pleas to be let breathe are ignored, that's indifference.
Consequently, what we have in the death of Eric is an application of state sanctioned depraved indifference.

(15,041 posts)A South Carolina state trooper has been arrested and charged with assault and battery for shooting an unarmed Black man during a traffic stop earlier this month.
Lance Corporal Sean Groubert was also fired from his job with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
On Sept. 4, Groubert stopped 35-year-old Levar Edward Jones for a seatbelt violation in the parking lot of a gas station/convenience store in Columbia. On dash-cam video from Grouberts cruiser, Jones is seen getting out of his car, seemingly surprised to see the officer pull in behind him.
Can I see your license, please? Groubert asked. When Jones reached into his car to retrieve his license, Groubert started shouting for Jones to get out of the car and drew his weapon. As Jones obeyed and leaned back out of his car, Groubert started shooting. At least four rounds were fired, with one hitting Jones in the hip.

I can't understand why the charge wasn't attempted murder, but then, it's being reported on a website that's not quite a news source, so take the info with some caution. The video at the link, however, is quite telling. Be interesting to see what happens . . .
