1. Not to be too literal, but lawyers do take an oath in every court that admits them.

Part of their code of ethics, though, is to represent their clients "vigorously."

IOW, they are obligated to do whatever they can to try to win cases, within the bounds of the law.

But, in general, I thought lawyer bashing was a rightist thing? Of course, the right lawyers up whenever it feels the need or desire so to do. And heaven knows, big business has lawyers up the yin yang. They just would rather no one else lawyers up, especially with ACLU lawyers or plaintiffs' counsel.

2. I know lots of lawyers, one was my housemate while in law school.

you can get them to quibble about anything even outside the courtroom.

My lawyer friends are liberals and they have a bigger collection of lawyer jokes than I do.

Besides, this cartoon is factually incorrect. As I said, lawyer do have to take oaths.

a cartoonist trying to deal with a subject about which s/he has little to no real knowledge. It's a random pot shot and random pot shots are not that funny, IMO.
