Just wanted to get the facts out there... there are some people pushing racist memes on DU by extracting black on black crime and minimizing lynching by cop bullets that black males have to worry about in America

1. If the premise is the likelihood is solely based on skin color, I don't agree.

There is a disproportionate minority representation for all police contact, and societal defects are a main culprit, not a band of cops trying to shoot anyone who isn't Caucasian.

I have seen and experienced brutality by deputies towards white inmates when I was on....err...vacation....in County. Although the worst I saw was a closed fist punch to a recent Vietnamese immigrant who obviously couldn't understand the commands given by deputies.

Now I'm rambling..

2. It doesn't have to be solely just in part and that makes it horrible... No one should be singled out

...because of an attribute about themselves that they can't help... including skin color ... and what ever else that's not criminal

4. I agree.

I was just pointing out that poverty is what leads to the disparity in crime for a particular location, which tends to be inner-city neighborhoods with higher minority populations.

Now, why society is structured in a way that certain skin colors are more likely to be poor is the heart of the issue in my opinion.

White people are just as likely and maybe more likely than blacks to use drugs. However, blacks are arrested at a higher rate and are given harsher sentences than whites. In addition, according to Michelle Alexander, even when whites commit hard crimes like gun crimes they can be seen, by law enforcement, in a more positive light than black people. In her book, The New Jim Crow, Alexander discussed how police explained a white man who had been picked up on a gun charge. Law enforcement saw him as just a good old making a mistake. It is likely they would not have seen a black person in the same light.

9. Every stat I reads suggests that whites use drugs at higher rates than do blacks.....

you'd never know that if you'd look at incarceration and arrest statistics only. There's definitely a racial component going on with police arrests of drug users.

Its been proven with the incongruity of arrest and punishment of "crack" and powdered cocaine users.

6. Numerically there are more poor white people in America than blacks. This is a color thing...

From the 12 yr child that was just shot without more than a couple of seconds notice to Mike Brown who was standing with this hands up and STILL a threat to Wilson.

In some areas in America the police not having a relationship with the community they serve is acceptable...

Ferguson is one of them

8. Nobody claims cops aren't leaning on poor whites, I see it here in 71% white Burnet county.....

but the 5% black population here gets more than their share as does the Hispanic population.
