(1,956 posts)That would be a loser for the same reasons McCain lost badly.

(63,645 posts)I think Romney has to pick a crazy far-right-winger to appease the crazy far-right-wingers who don't trust him.

(15,391 posts)I doubt McCain likes Romney any more than he did Bush, and the presidency was supposed to be his (after all, just like Mitt is saying now, McCain said he was due), and he wouldn't settle for less in this regard. Palin's ego wouldn't allow her to try for number 2 again considering how she insisted on doing things her way and chafed under the restrictions put on her.
Now that said, I could see both of them accepting positions in the cabinet.

(6,996 posts)McCain received an even smaller percent of the vote than Dukakis did. He lost in a landslide. But he lingers on the national stage. He won't go away, like an ugly scab.
Not even the Mittster would be that stupid.

(10,164 posts)But given that she's a voice of (relative) sanity in the GOP ranks, I suspect there's zero chance of that. I'm betting he goes for a hard-right pick, to try and solidify the support of teabagger types that are pissed Captain Frothy didn't win. Rmoney himself with continue with the Etch-A-Sketch thing and try to run as a moderate to attract independent swing voters. It's all a recipe for epic fail...and I'm okay with that.

(146,331 posts)McCain is already a loser, and he's not gotten any more lucid or capable since 2008. Far from it. In his recent appearances, he's seemed frail and forgetful.
Someone younger will probably be the pick, anyhow. It could easily be someone who is more to the right than Romney, since that might recapture some of the right-wingers who are incensed that Romney will be the candidate.

(40,416 posts)He is old. I don't want to malign somebody for their age, but this is an appropriate question when he or she is to be putatively in line for the most powerful political position in the country.
