Ireland: voter registrations rise before marriage equality vote

In the Republic of Ireland, the public will soon vote on marriage equality. The campaign has driven a rise in voter registrations. Ireland is predominantly Roman Catholic and seen as relatively conservative on social issues, but that may change. Three years ago, the country began to allow civil partnerships for LGBT people.
