She had discomfort during exercise and then docs discovered a blockage. She's doing well, resting comfortably, and is expected to be released in 2 days.

(5,455 posts)With the Republicans controlling the Senate come January, no replacement as liberal as Ginsburg will pass a vote.
And there is no way to get a Supreme Court nominee through the system before then.

(49,212 posts)I don't think that's wrong. He is a terrible negotiator, he starts in the middle and then makes concessions.

I'd much rather have Obama replacing her than Rand Paul.

(34,857 posts)You'll get a Scalia clone and frankly, I'd even take someone like Kennedy or Sandra Day O'Connor over Scalia Part II - which is exactly what we'd get with a GOP president.

(5,455 posts)best we can hope for is a moderate like Kennedy if Ginsburg or one of the others dies or steps down anytime in the next two years, at a minimum.

(39,374 posts)and so is the poster who said it's too late. The time for her to retire was two years ago after the President's re-election, or earlier.
For those who will scream, "ageism!," I will think of you in the unhappy but very possible event of her seat being turned over to a Scalia wannabe.
In the meantime, I will pray for our 2016 nominee to win.

(13,058 posts)And if Clinton is elected in 2016 remember that it was her husband who nominated Ginsburg and I would expect another quality nominee from her. And while Obama's two nominees might not have pleased everybody but they certainly are not another Scalia.

(13,058 posts)But the Republicans are going to have a lot of trouble winning in 2016. There are so many safe blue states now that any Dem nominee would be a heavy favorite to win that election. It would take some unforeseen major event like an economic collapse probably to change that.

(5,275 posts)I don't know about the wisdom of her retiring now. Much as I'd prefer someone more populist, and someone not another Bush/Clinton, Hillary is quite the favorite to win in 2016. Also democrats should pick up seats in both the House and Senate. So in 2017 maybe we could get a better candidate confirmed to take over.

(856 posts)Best wishes to RBG!!! It is a common procedure. My boss had a surgical stent procedure & he was back to work after a week. He is in his early 60's, My neighbor's husband who is in his 40's had the same surgery years ago & is doing fine --he is a policeman.
