A vehicle plowed through a group of demonstrators in Minneapolis Tuesday afternoon during a march and rally in the wake of a Missouri grand jury decision not to indict a white police officer for fatally shooting a black teenager.
A solidarity rally and march for Michael Brown, who was killed by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, was planned Tuesday near the Minneapolis Police Departments 3rd Precinct headquarters at Lake Street and Minnehaha Avenue S.
A Star Tribune reporter who is at the rally says that witnesses say the vehicle started honking at protesters blocking the intersection before running down a woman around the start of the rally at 4:30 p.m.

If you're just "chatting" with them, you don't.

(7,720 posts)would be charges. The protesters were also breaking the law by impeading traffic so the case would have been somewhat murky.

(65,616 posts)You didn't know? If there is a crowd blocking the street...you can run over as many people as you like. I swear, some people here are so fucking transparent that it pains me to watch them in action.

GGJohn
(9,951 posts)that certainly was the case, those German drivers back then were like Funny Cars at the Christmas Tree, inching up to the line hoping to beat the other car off the line, I pitied the fool still crossing the street when the light changed.

(65,616 posts)Interesting argument.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)Seriously. You aren't even a little bit skeptical about the fact that the video jumps in when the car is already surrounded, people are on the hood, and the woman is lying just in front of the tire?
In terms of the right of way, that again requires seeing the person, which you can't do if a crowd has jumped onto your hood.

(56,582 posts)Keep in mind I've been driving in Mumbai for a year and a half now (I even caught myself thinking "he's driving on the wrong side of the road!" where... umm... "etiquette" on the road is different.
That said, as I posted below, having watched the aerial video in fullscreen I agree the driver seems to be in the wrong here.
Rex
(65,616 posts)Foolish too, that crowd could have dragged them from the car and beaten them to death.

(7,720 posts)The driver might still be charged, we don't know what the county attorney may decide. I am juat glad there were no significant injuries with this incident.
Subaru Outback? The driver probably votes for Democrats.

(38,613 posts)The front of the car touches people before people touch the car. See the video during the 5th to 8th second.
Rex
(65,616 posts)totally foolish thing to do imo.
arcane1
(38,613 posts)I'm glad the injuries were not serious. I'm also glad none of the car windows were broken.
Rex
(65,616 posts)Another reason it is foolish to plow into an angry mob...they can pull you out of the car and beat you to death. The driver is lucky to be alive imo.
arcane1
(38,613 posts)At the time nobody knew it would be just minor injuries (since it was still happening!), they just saw what looked like a homicidal driver who needed to be stopped.
I'm glad the situation ended where it did, but I would be disappointed if the driver were legally deemed blameless

(56,582 posts)Then the driver tries to get the hell out of there.
Is that not what you see? It's pretty clear to me.

(38,613 posts)I like to think I'm not someone who would mistake Venus for a UFO, until I do
I remember the first time I ever noticed Venus. I was stationed in the Mojave and pulled second firewatch (because, you know, metal Quonset huts in the high desert catch on fire like all the time). We were right on the west side of a mountain. The sky was a dark pink, and the brightest "star" I have ever seen in my life pops over the mountain.
I had taken two astronomy classes in college, so I suppose I "knew" about Venus already, but it literally took my breath away. I can totally get why ancients thought it was a goddess, and modern people think it's a UFO...
arcane1
(38,613 posts)The reason I mentioned it in the first place was because I had known about it for years, and spent many years thinking only a complete idiot would mistake Venus for anything except a bright star. Then one night during the winter I was driving through some hilly woods in Virginia, and saw low on the horizon this ball of light that bounced around the top of a distant hill. I SWORE it moved around!!
I eventually stooped the car and observed it, and realized I was that dumb-ass. Its low altitude made it seem larger and closer, and I was getting a strobe light effect from the leafless trees when I was driving. So it was a beautiful experience all around, that has stuck with me for over 25 years now

(56,582 posts)And then does something he might not do with a cooler head, like try to get the hell out of there.
Did "the driver run over" the woman or did "the woman put herself in front of his wheel"? Could he see her with all those people on his hood?
Rex
(65,616 posts)But please do make a case for it, this should be funny. Um...maybe the person driving should have stopped?
Recursion
(56,582 posts)how is it a crime?

You'd want to stop if a crowd of people are surrounding your car and pounding it?

Rex
(65,616 posts)to run them over? Good to know. Why didn't the driver put the car in reverse, they had nobody behind them. Nice try.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)For this exact reason.
Rex
(65,616 posts)But I would not try and run over people just to turn right. Then again that is just me and I would never try and get my car in between a group of angry people.

(17,621 posts)Some of the drivers from "Ice Road Truckers" went to India to try their hand at driving in the Himalayas. They were hilarious! They were used to thinking safety, safety, safety, and it's total chaos. One driver didn't even make it out of New Delhi on his first run before he gave up and went home. Another, the only woman, had her truck mobbed and the two other drivers had to rescue her. One of them was constantly saying stuff like "Did you see that? That woman walked right in front of me!" Or "That guy almost sideswiped me!" And he absolutely hated those little green buses on those narrow mountain roads. Speaking of those roads, I don't know how they built them in the first place. It made for some great TV!
