"The Other Foot" One of Ray Bradbury's best.

"The Other Foot" — Mars has been colonized solely by black people. When they learn that a rocket is coming from Earth with white travelers, they institute a Jim Crow system of racial segregation in which white people are to be considered second-class citizens, in retaliation for the history of wrongs perpetrated on their race by white people.

When the rocket lands, the traveler tells them that most of the Earth has been destroyed in a nuclear war, and asks for their help. The people realize that discrimination is harmful in all its forms, and reverse their planned segregation.

He is the greatest sci-fi author ever. I started reading his books when I was in high school. But I have never read that story.

I heard him speak (on KPFK a long time ago) and he said he got his education thanks to the Los Angeles Public Library.

Would that more people spent the time there, learning. This world would be a very different place, indeed.

An approaching fleet of spaceships announce themselves as being from our parent civilization, explaining they abandoned the Earth colony because of a disfiguring disease.
