I think the executive action will actually raise wages

Lots of unscrupulous employers pay undocumented workers way below minimum wage. Now that all that all of them will paid through proper channels - they will have to be paid fair & square. Which means that the jobs would also become available to regular americans.

And it levels the playing field for people/business owners who have followed the rules and lost money/businesses to people who abuse these workers.

that's why the repugs are all against it. Racism is often a factor with these types, but money is even more important. That's what they really hate - spending money on people other than themselves. You see it with every issue - from Obamacare to immigration to raising the minimum wage.

I hope they feel empowered, because I know they work their asses off for horrible under-the-table wages. Used and abused no more?

It will work out. wholesalers who are buying your crop will eventually have to adjust to the new market reality and consumers will see a slight price increase. Hopefully this will be passed down to people like you allowing you to charge more for you peppers.

Now, i know that in practice big buyers will try to bully farmers to accept low prices but i am wondering if it is partly because of that shadow labor market we had for years.

I commend you for doing your best helping these people and hope it will work out for you.

And you are not the only farmer that will have to do this. In fact it will be harder for you to find labor due to the fact that before you were the only game in town, now the people you have exploited have the option of getting jobs in air conditioned environments making minimum wage. People don't pick crops because it's better than working at McDonalds they do it because it's their only option and now it's not. So good luck with your farm.

to take the place of the existing undocumented workers that the employers can no longer threaten and coerce.
