"We will not stand idle as the president undermines the rule of law and places lives at risk."
That's what Speaker John Boehner, a Republican from Ohio, had to say this morning about President Obama's unilateral action on immigration.
In a press conference at the Capitol, Boehner used harsh language to describe the executive actions intended to defer the deportation of up to 5 million immigrants.
With his actions, Boehner said, Obama "deliberately sabotaged" any chance of comprehensive immigration legislation and by acting "like a king" he is also "damaging the presidency."
"We have a broken immigration system and the American people expect us to work together to fix it and we ought to do that through the democratic process," Boehner said.

(946 posts)they're actually doing something, I suspect they'll stop immediately and go back to doing nothing.
If the democrats where up on PR, they'd take this "will not stand idly by" comment and run with it.
"republicans have sat idly by while millions of unemployed americans waited on a jobs bill that went no where."
"republicans have sat idly by while important american infrastructure crumbled, and they didn't want to do anything about it."
"Republicans have sat idly by while unresolved issues in american society remained unresolved."
"republicans only take action when someone else tries to move america forward, and then they only try to stop anything from happening."

(50,311 posts)They had the perfect opportunity to get "demon Obama" and they blew it. Yesterday morning the House could have brought the Senate bill up for a vote and it would have passed. Boner could have held a news conference proclaiming how much the GOP loves minorities, loves keeping families together and how the Republican-led House has now proven it. That would have caused some to stop in their tracks and give the GOP a second look. It would probably have gotten them some voters in the next election. But, alas, they took the bait and have continued on their mission of "hate Obama." Fools.
now they look like the party that wants to tear Hispanic families apart. Even Steve Schmidt (sp), who has been trying to make the republican party reach out to Hispanics, screwed up last night with his comments on msnbc. Now him and the republican party has guaranteed GOP losses among the Hispanic population for a generation, just like they did in California. I wonder if this was PBO's plan after all. Put the republicans in a political box.

(182,911 posts)That stood idly by during the W fiasco. They stand idly by so nothing gets done during the Obama recovery. Hell they did actually do something last week - they voted against stopping the illegal spying that slipped right by them after 9/11.
