A split among Republicans in Congress deepened over how to block President Barack Obama’s executive

order on immigration, showing party tension on whether to risk shutting down the government over the issue.

House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell say they don’t want a repeat of the October 2013 shutdown caused by a Republican bid to defund Obamacare. An appropriations aide said today Congress can’t use spending bills to defund the main immigration agency that would carry out Obama’s immigration order.

Other Republicans disputed that argument.

“There is no question that Congress has the power to block this expenditure and no doubt that it can be done,” Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama, in line to become Budget Committee chairman, said in an e-mailed statement.

Representative Steve King of Iowa said the immigration agency “is controlled by Congress. We can scoop all their fees if we want to, we can shut them down.”

I would say that Jeff Sessions, Steve King and their right wing buddies are going to make things very interesting. One can hope that they cause the republican party to self-destruct.

(10-13 year olds). It had several players that went out to be High school "stars" and 4 even played Div I ball ... so there was budding talent on the team.

When I first got the team, we practiced the fundamentals and I taught them some basic plays. I spent most of practice talking about playing as a team ... "Why take the 10 footer when with 1 pass there's the open lay-up ... Everyone, on the line!"

The first game came and the kids ran their plays ... for the first 3 minutes of the game, when they found themselves up 14 points; then, it became one-on-one, "I'm going for mine" time. I don't recall more than one pass (the inbound) before a shot was taken. We went into halftime up by 2 points. I spent all of halftime talking to them about playing as a team and that meant PASSING the ball ... and oh, yeah, "wear your old shoes for practice because we're gonna be running lines." They played the rest of the game as a team and we ended up winning.

The several games were against a tough teams and my team pulled together and played as a team ... and we won. Then, we played a couple of teams that we were clearly more talented than ... and after the first half of the first game, the team fell back into "I'm going for mine" mode.

I don't know why that memory came to mind ...
