Beinart takes note of Hillarys silence on Baracks upcoming immigration actions and the deal with Iran. He suspects she is avoid inheriting Obamas baggage in 2016?:
But whether or not keeping her distance is good politics for Clinton, its bad politics for Obama. By distancing herself from Obamas efforts, she encourages Democrats in Congress to do the same, especially those in more conservative states or dependent on more hawkish donors. And given the furious opposition Obamas efforts will spark among Republicans, a public split among Washington Democrats will make it harder for him to prevail.
All of which shows why its important that Clinton face a primary challenger. Its the only way that progressives, who overwhelmingly support Obama on immigration and Iran, can influence her behavior.

Just read this on Andrew Sullivan, and I hope we push her hard to embrace this executive order and take it further when she gets
into office. She should come out strong for immigration reform. This inaction will not endear her to the base.

(5,599 posts)and back the President. Put herself out there. She is too cautious. We need loud and solid support on immigration. We need
to grind those Republicans that want to do nothing.
The public is watching and they do not remember all of these votes that you have listed.

(21,115 posts)Talking with a radio host in Nov. 2004, Hillary said, I am adamantly against illegal immigrants. That alone was a show stopper but she went on: People have got to stop employing illegal immigrants. [in NY] you see loads of people waiting to get picked up to go do yard work & construction work & domestic work.
A prominent Democrat had figured it out! (The NY Times later quoted it as against illegal immigration.) After she smacked employers of illegal aliens, she went right for the throat of the 2nd culprit, the federal government:
We ought to come up with a much better entry & exit system so that if were going to let people in for the work that otherwise would not be done, lets have a system that keeps track of them.
Even my brother Pat Buchanan commented that Hillarys forthrightness makes Bush sound like a talking head for La Raza. But Hillary had no follow-up to this unusual foray into the enemy camp, and her liberal voting pattern remained unaltered.

(21,115 posts)I hope you were being sarcastic...
the USBC is the Border Patrol.....she was rated 8% by them!
Clinton scores 8% by USBC on immigration issues
OnTheIssues.org interprets the 2005-2006 USBC scores as follows:
0%-30%: open-border stance (approx. 197 members)
30%-70%: mixed record on open borders (approx. 70 members)
70%-100%: sealed-border stance (approx. 202 members)
About USBC (from their website, www.usbc.org):
U.S. Border Control, founded in 1988, is a non-profit, tax-exempt, citizen's lobby. USBC is dedicated to ending illegal immigration by securing our nation's borders and reforming our immigration policies. USBC [works with] Congressmen to stop amnesty; seal our borders against terrorism and illegal immigration; and, preserve our nation's language, culture and American way of life for future generations.
Our organization accepts no financial support from any branch of government. All our support comes from concerned citizens who appreciate the work we are doing to seal our borders against drugs, disease, illegal migration and terrorism and wish to preserve our nation's language, culture and heritage for the next generations.

(59,504 posts)To me, and I am not a huge supporter of Clinton, it is something that was designed to hurt her with the Democratic base. Do you think that this quote - possibly taken out of context - was her position at that point in time?
More, what do you think when you hear that stated as her position?
VanillaRhapsody
(21,115 posts)if you read the full thing in context it makes sense....she meant We need to fix the immigration problem....not that she had anything against the immigrants....she was acknowledging there is a problem

(12,778 posts)is obligated to support President Obama's political agenda, especially if she thinks it might hurt her chances of being elected in 2016. She is no longer a member of his administration, and there is nothing that requires her or anyone else to support every decision the President makes.

If the BIG Dog came out against Obama's actions then the same people would be outraged and tie Bill to Hillary.
