General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsApologies in advance to good DU Dems who report
that their health care premiums, plans purchased in the ACA marketplace,
have gone up. But, not everyone who is saying this is for real! (I have discovered this)! Just saying.

I do want to get a new car - want a hybrid. Do you have one?

(68,644 posts)It's been a strong car but is beginning to burn oil-- probably my fault for driving it too hard.
Very versatile, I can fit a kayak and 10-foot boards and pipe inside with the passenger seats down, and still close the hatchback.
The seats for the 2007 weren't very comfortable but they've gotten better with the newer models.
I would buy one again, maybe a plug in-hybrid, and maybe a Ford C-max instead of a Prius.
You may know that Prius now has several models: the regular one, the regular one with a plug-in charging option, a smaller one and a bigger one.
For now I'm going to keep running this one as long as I can!

Glad you are feeling better and Obamacare helped.

(68,644 posts)Now it's $540 for roughly the same coverage.
And, this year, with an aneurism and a second and third head surgery, well over $600,000 in claims has been covered.
Health care reform is still imperfect, but better than before.

(108,994 posts)Dealing with head surgeries is challenging enough -- you didn't need to worry about insurance, too.

(68,644 posts)No problemo!
I haven't made much a stink about it, but I am SO lucky to be alive after an aneurism and brain surgery back in May!
Thanks to my ACA and Stanford Hospital, almost no aftereffects except for some infection problems at the wound site.
They did a third surgery last week, Wednesday, pulled the bone flap out (that's the piece of skull removed to repair the leak).

(68,644 posts)I had some great times in NYC, blessed to be there for more than 8 years and lived and worked and attended university.
So many stories and memories. I remember the day the Stones taped this video, in my neighborhood!
I'm back out on the left coast now, doncha know!

(90,793 posts)In the old days they could just raise your rates at will.
I hope you find what you need/want between this weekend and the end of the year. I know it's aggravating to have to do that, but everyone with employer-provided insurance has open enrollment once a year too.

(90,793 posts)Not everyone who is saying this is for real, and I still wish them health.
Someone in this thread mentioned COBRA, and it reminded me of the time many years ago when it looked like I'd have to take it for me and my kids. Let me remind you, if you forgot or never knew, that women get charged more, and if they have kids it goes through the roof. Let's just say it was vastly unaffordable for someone who had a low income in the first place. I'm so happy for those here (and everywhere) who got to trade in theirs for an ACA plan.
