9 Facts That Shatter Bullsh*t Stereotypes About Fat People

http://everydayfeminism.com/2014/11/9-facts-stereotypes-fat-people/

At the bottom of nearly every article celebrating body diversity, you will likely find some version of the following comments:...

This is called concern trolling, and it needs to stop. The intersectional issues of size, health and weight loss are far more complicated than we’ve been led to believe, and this lack of understanding has led to weight-based discrimination becoming a serious problem across the world.

Widespread anti-fat prejudice typically stems from misconceptions about health, weight, and body positivity, and negatively affects millions of people every day.

People are allowed to make their own decisions regarding their own bodies, but we need to start treating people of all sizes with respect. We can start by providing some actual information about being fat.

People better learn that they WILL come after you for something. I refused to let them weigh or measure me under my former employer's Wellness Program. Others said to me, "But you are only 100 lbs and a size 0!" No, it was the PRINCIPLE of the matter. If we skinnies would FIGHT THIS, maybe these morons might get the message that discrimination against those who do not "measure up" is just not right.

there is a point where being overweight definitely becomes unhealthy. Morbid obesity runs my family and I see its devastating consequences. Carrying extra weight is fine but don't tell me there is not a line you can cross without endangering your health.

My dad was 30-50 pounds overweight most of his adult life. He died at 65 of congestive heart disease directly related to his weight issues. Fortunately I didn't get his genes in that respect.

She was born in 1875, was enormously fat, and lived until she was 99.

I suppose if she'd been a bit thinner, she might have made it to 100.

When you see pictures of people celebrating their hundredth birthday, they almost never look really fat.

And driving. We should ad that to the list, judge those who get behind the wheel, and pontificate about their habits too (to maintain ethical consistency).

My dad died at least 10 years prematurely because of heart issues that were directly weight related. Obesity KILLS people and that is a medical FACT. And not in accidents.

50 lbs above "normal"? 100 lbs? According to the author there is no connection between obesity, as currently defined, and poor health. A ton of cognitive dissonance going on in that piece IMO.
