Voter purging steals who knows how many of this months elections, NC for sure

http://projects.aljazeera.com/2014/double-voters/challenging-crosscheck.html

GREENSBORO, N.C. — As control of the U.S. Senate hangs in the balance, voting-rights activists are preparing for a fight over the removal of suspected fraudulent voters and nowhere more so than the Southern battleground states of Georgia and North Carolina. They are responding to a six-month investigation published last week by Al Jazeera America, which revealed that millions of voters are at risk of being removed from the rolls in 27 states participating in the Interstate Crosscheck program, a voter-fraud detection system.

The terrorist who WON the election is the one who WROTE the god damn bill that stopped tens of thousands of NC people from voting

What the fuck are we doing about this?????????????????

The GOP has mastered the use of the Dribs & Drabs Method.

A few thousand votes here, a few thousand there-- each one seems quite small. Who's going to add them up.

And if they do think the results are strange, they'll wonder what they did wrong. And there's a lot of material for that topic.

Or discuss again how unreliable those polling companies have become.

Or a local series of marches? We need to do something.

I am about to start a new job and I don't know what my hours will be. But dangumit, someone needs to get out there with some signs and get in the legislators' face or call them or flood them with letters. Something. This is not acceptable. Voting is a Constitutional right. Theft of votes is fraud and some people need to go to jail if they kept people from voting.

Year 2000 -- voter purging. But big emphasis on how tedious counting paper ballots could be. The bug eyed guy and the hanging chad. And vote counting could be Dangerous-- if you believed the paid professional rabble rousers at the polls.

Hand-counting was so messy. We really needed those electronic voting machines. And had suppliers standing by. With proprietary systems.

And gerrymandering-- drawing districts to favor your party -- which I believe was supposed to be a system to assure that all citizens had representation.

Clearly partisan design of voting locations. Machine allocations favoring the GOP. More convenience for the GOP areas.

Software malfunctions favor one party. Seems too ridiculous, but each malfunction is reported separately and seems like an isolated incident.

The still racist south got the Extreme Court to remove those pesky Voting Rights Act restrictions on their process. They were deemed to not be racist anymore.

And sadly, all along Data Processing Service companies have been used ostensibly to help the country transition into a computerized voting system. They help clean up the massive voter rolls. And you can use the "A" plan, which checks and double-checks the results of their analyses, or you can choose the "B" plan with minimal diligence.

Voter ID laws were the big shiny new technique that's been bandied about for a couple of years now. Deep discussions of disenfranchisement have taken place, and the laws have been challenged.

But we're also still using electronic voting systems that are not serving us well.

And the current purging system is so absurd that I didn't even notice it. The Same Name Game has been exposed.

I try to dive in to The Brad Blog regularly to keep up with the flood of on-scene reports of election manipulation and voter suppression. (And great Green News)

And I'm glad Greg Palast has been on the case of The Same Name. But the story came out a while ago now, and hasn't been blasting across the headlines. I do hope that as the legal challenges proceed, people will be aroused to restore the integrity of our voting systems. But I can see the stories being brushed off into Geekville-- charts, numbers, anomalies.

I wish we could include a rider in our constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United that guaranteed citizens a verifiable, printable, hand-countable vote.

This is outrageous and it is frightening that after various voter purging schemes since 2000, we have become dulled to the impact that these deliberately sloppy "voter roll updating" plans really have.

We are so accustomed to GOP voter suppression that some things can just pass us by.

I am amazed that since Governor Bush and Katherine Harris ran their "sloppy" voter purging in 2000-- dropping voters with last names similar to convicted felons who aren't allowed to vote-- which resulted in over 40,000 voters purged, that we would have been watching them like hawks ever since. But they've got so many voter suppression activities going on that we don't notice the most effective plan--voter purging. Broad brush cleaning out the voter rolls.

In 2010 we didn't have the odd gaps between liberal initiatives and right wing legislators that we did this year, as far as I recall. Just the regular voter suppression here and there like Republican election officials deciding to allocate fewer voting machines in Democratic districts. And the disturbing vote flipping with those pesky electronic voting machines.

But they've been doing this broad brush, "gee golly, just cleaning up the voting rolls" in different formats. This year they used "Interstate Crosscheck"-- sounds innocuous but it is an absolutely absurdly broad brush-- they are eliminating voters with the same name as those who may have Already Voted In Another State !! That means you, James Washington!

The lists are heavily over-weighted with names such as Jackson, Garcia, Patel and Kim, common to minorities who vote overwhelmingly Democratic. Indeed, one in seven African-Americans in those 27 states are listed as suspected of the crime of voting twice, one in eight Asian-Americans, and one in eight Hispanic voters. White voters too, one in eleven, are at risk, though not as vulnerable as minorities.

Year 2000 -- Purge the list of convicted felons, and no need to double-check.
Year 2014 -- Purge the list of those whose Names Are The Same as those who have registered in other states.

I'm not sure what other purges are offered by the data analysis companies, but they offer different layers of service and you don't have to order the one with the checking-- don't want to spend too much after all.

And even though there was lots of evidence back in the year 2000, that the quick & dirty voter purging had been done-- testimony from those who were purged, and searches of their records-- it was too awful a prospect that our distinguished Grand Old Party could be so underhanded-- we seemed to have swooned and filed it away.

When you expose this stuff it also may buzz that CT button, and we know we're all supposed to dismiss those conspiracies. And we went through all that election fraud stuff before, didn't we? But it isn't a mysterious conspiracy, it is just a relentless thirst for victory at all costs. Election integrity is far less important to them.

We may have Cheating Fatigue, but clearly some state election officials did not. They used the Broad Brush Purge of 2014-- Same Last Names !!

I wish we could rustle up more sustained outrage for these practices that have continued for over a decade. But the perpetrators understand the Dribs and Drabs Method. A few hundred vote flips here. Drop just 1/10 of the list there. Broken voting machines delay things over there. Voter ID fights going on over there. Each one is reported and seems like an isolated problem.

We need an update for 2014. All the election oddities assembled in a documentary. There have been so many isolated stories, of a few different kinds of vote rigging (each with its plausible deniability rationale), that we need to review it all together.
