satisfaction of being impeached.

Edited to add: If they try to impeach him we all need to go to DC and protest until that place is closed down. ENOUGH.

(18,402 posts)I swear, we deserve to lose if this is an example of "Democratic" thinking.
All I've seen tonight are conspiracy theories about voting machines, blaming everyone but the voters (and candidates), and failing to cop to reality. Everyone knew that the Republicans were predicted to have big wins tonight and to likely take over the Senate. Yet we have all this crazy talk.
I'm disgusted.

KingCharlemagne
(7,908 posts)impeachment works and what is required for impeachment (House majority) and removal (Senate 2/3). It's so ludicrous that I almost want to restate the OP on his or her behalf: Were Obama presented with the certainty of removal in the Senate (please do note my use of the subjunctive mood), he should resign with dignity rather than allow himself to be lynched by a racist Senate. For those who enjoy debating nonsensical hypotheticals, this would offer some possibilties. But as things stand, it's utter lunacy.
CK_John
(10,005 posts)President Harry S. Truman, who kept a sign with that phrase on his desk in the Oval Office. The phrase refers to the fact that the President has to make the decisions and accept the ultimate responsibility for those decisions. Truman received the sign as a gift from a prison warden who was also an avid poker player.
KingCharlemagne
(7,908 posts)a few myself.
But a non-sequiturial response to your own OP? That has to also represent something new.
The U.S. has no tradition of 'no confidence' resignations. None. So I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about with the 'buck stops here' anecdote.
Hekate
(90,865 posts)But why let that get in the way of the idiocy of the average American who never passed high school civics? It's so satisfying, apparently, to believe that voters can give a "vote of no confidence" to the president of the US during midterm elections, when all they are doing is sending him a House and Senate that will refuse to work with him.

No matter how many times they get their asses plunged they still don't realise that it's a FIGHT.
cleanhippie
(19,705 posts)The House may pass articles of impeachment, but the senate must publicly try the President and present legal (as in would be held up in a court of law) evidence of his alleged crimes. Republicans will have to go on very public record and state, unequivocally what the "facts" are, and since they have no actual facts or evidence of any "High Crimes and Misdemeanors", they will never, ever get that that far.
Sure, the next two years will have out TV's bursting with Republicans ranting about impeachment, but it's just not going to happen.
